The position of Assistant Store Manager at Gordon Food Service offers a unique opportunity to become an integral part of store operations at their Comstock Park, MI location. This role serves as the right-hand to the Store Manager, providing vital support in managing all aspects of store performance including customer service, merchandise management, team leadership, and operational efficiency. The Assistant Store Manager plays a key role in driving the store’s success by achieving financial objectives, overseeing the day-to-day running of the store, and fostering an engaging and productive environment for both customers and employees.

This role requires a committed, passionate leader who excels in retail management, with a particular emphasis on grocery operations. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, taking pride in both merchandising prowess and exemplary customer experiences. Responsibilities include supervising sales associates, ensuring the store meets high merchandising standards for product quality and presentation, managing inventory and shrinkage, and stepping in to manage the store fully in the Store Manager’s absence. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, ensuring the store operates smoothly during all open hours.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of grocery or retail management experience
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with frequent lifting above shoulder height
  • Ability to work flexible, full-time schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Successfully pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check

Job Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of grocery or retail management experience
  • Hands-on leadership experience in grocery retail (e.g. Produce, Deli/Bakery, or Meat/Seafood departments) is highly preferred but not required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with frequent lifting above shoulder height
  • Ability to work flexible, full-time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record per GFS policy
  • Successfully pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check

Job Duties

  • Assists with the management of all aspects of Store operations including customer service, store condition and the selection, training, supervising, and performance management of Store Sales Associates
  • Assists in unloading all merchandise from delivery trucks, organizes merchandise, and transfers merchandise from stockroom to store
  • Collaborates with team members to ensure the store meets or exceeds the established merchandising standards for product quality, presentation and visual marketing/merchandising
  • Keep up with reporting to support sales, earnings, and minimizing shrink
  • Assumes full management responsibility in the absence of the Store Manager
