The Grocery Manager at Sprouts plays a pivotal role in the operation of multiple customer-focused departments, including Grocery, Dairy, Frozen Food, and Beer/Wine. This full-time position demands strong leadership, operational expertise, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service. The manager is responsible for overseeing the sales and day-to-day operations of these departments, ensuring product freshness, inventory accuracy, cost control, and compliance with safety and food regulations. With a focus on team development, the Grocery Manager recruits, coaches, and evaluates staff to maintain a high level of service and operational efficiency. In addition, this role involves managing labor costs, loss prevention, physical inventory preparation, and overseeing truck deliveries from distribution centers.

The position requires the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, fostering a positive and motivating work environment. It also demands physical capabilities such as lifting heavy items and performing repetitive movements over extended periods, emphasizing the dynamic nature of the role. Job Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess 1 year managerial or supervisory experience managing a department or team within a multi-department retail, hospitality, or service operation
  • Have strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to take and give direction and work in a team environment
  • Exhibit outgoing, friendly behavior and positive attitude
  • Proven leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff
  • Working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals
  • Strong detail orientation, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Maintain Food Safety certification
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company regulations for product freshness, food safety, weights and measures, store safety, employee safety, refrigeration, and sanitation
  • Strong organization and planning skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Must vertically transfer milk trays weighing up to 60 lbs, from 9 to 62 inches, for up to 25 hours
  • Must vertically/horizontally transfer boxes weighing up to 50 lbs, from 5 to 34 inches, for a distance up to 5 feet for up to 25 hours without mechanical assistance
  • Repetitive squatting, kneeling, bending to access a point 5 inches from the floor for up to 30 hours is expected
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that changes as business changes, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Ensure that products are handled properly, rotated to ensure freshness, and that date controls are performed
  • Control costs by constantly monitoring and improving operations to increase profitability- manage labor costs and reduce loss due to shrink, damage, and pilferage
  • Assist in the preparation of store for physical inventory counts
  • Assist or oversee the unloading of trucks from distribution centers, verify deliveries against invoices, note shortages and overages, and report to appropriate suppliers
  • Manage ordering, compliance, sanitation, back-room inventory, and department safety
  • Engage and evaluate team members through coaching, feedback, and one-on-one development discussions
  • participate in bi-annual performance review process
  • Regularly attend and participate in in-store meetings
  • Recruit, hire, and make promotion or transfer decisions in collaboration with the Store Manager
  • Confidently exercise independent judgment to address Team Member concerns
  • Take and document corrective actions as needed including coaching, counseling, progressive discipline, suspension, or termination
  • Ensure maximum productivity and efficiency by creating and adjusting schedules and staffing levels
  • Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes, and product knowledge to team members
  • Lead a team that collaborates to deliver the finest quality product, highest level of service, and greatest customer experience
  • Serve as a Key Carrier for the store and act as Manager on Duty as needed
