Job Description

US Foods is a leading foodservice distributor that delivers high-quality products and services to restaurants, healthcare, hospitality, and other foodservice operators across the United States. With a strong commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, US Foods strives to provide exceptional solutions that help its customers succeed in their businesses. The company, well-renowned in the food industry, fosters a culture based on its core beliefs: Deliver Excellence, Stop Waste, WIN Together, Speak Up, and You Matter. These principles guide every team member to work collaboratively towards shared success while prioritizing outstanding service and operational efficiency.

The CHEF'STORE® is one of US Foods' premier retail operations, providing a wide range of high-quality food products, culinary equipment, and disposables to professional chefs and food enthusiasts alike. The CHEF'STORE® Department Lead plays a critical role in maintaining superior customer service, merchandising, and store operations as part of the US Foods strategy: Great Food, Made Easy. This full-time, day-shift position offers a starting pay rate of $20.67 per hour, with benefits commencing from the first day of employment. Candidates must be fully available on a flexible schedule including weekends, to meet the diverse demands of the retail environment.

As a Retail Department Lead at the CHEF'STORE®, the individual will oversee all functions related to Dry, Disposables, Culinary Equipment Supplies (CES), and fresh departments as assigned by store management. This leadership role includes Manager on Duty responsibilities during the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, such as opening and closing the store. The incumbent is expected to uphold inventory control, ensure appealing and profitable merchandise presentation, and deliver exceptional customer service that aligns with US Foods' cultural beliefs.

The role demands strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to train, motivate, and develop a staff committed to high standards for freshness, stock maintenance, presentation, and pricing. The Department Lead will also manage safety standards, ensuring the facility presents a safe environment for employees and customers by adhering to established safety policies and promptly addressing any issues.

Working at the CHEF'STORE® offers a dynamic environment where the team collectively 'rolls up their sleeves' to provide fast, efficient, and friendly service. The Retail Department Lead will interact with employees across all levels and external customers, building professional relationships that reinforce the store’s reputation and customer loyalty. This role requires adaptability and a self-driven approach, with an emphasis on analyzing customer needs, making sound business decisions, and fostering a positive shopping experience.

To succeed, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in computer use including word processing, email, and internet software, alongside three or more years of experience in retail, restaurant, or customer service settings. Supervisory or leadership experience is preferred to effectively guide the team and monitor daily performance. Physical abilities must include handling activities such as standing, walking on level surfaces, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, and computer-related tasks. The working environment involves temperature variations within the store ranging from -10 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit, exposure to typical retail noise levels, and occasional use of ladders or elevated platforms.

Overall, the CHEF'STORE® Retail Department Lead position is integral to US Foods’ success, offering a rewarding career path with competitive pay, overtime compensation, and comprehensive benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, short and long-term disability, an employee stock purchase plan, and life insurance. This position provides an excellent opportunity for those passionate about food retail, customer service excellence, and leadership in a well-established company known for its industry leadership and dedication to its employees and customers.
