Job Description

Waterman Grille is a distinctive dining establishment located in Providence, Rhode Island, set inside a historic 1871 gatehouse that overlooks the scenic Seekonk River. The restaurant offers guests a vibrant and memorable culinary experience that draws inspiration from the seasons. By emphasizing the use of fresh, local ingredients, Waterman Grille crafts dishes with lively flavors and techniques that are uniquely enhanced by the embers of their wood-fired grill. Proudly a member of the Newport Restaurant Group, Waterman Grille is part of a well-respected network of restaurants known for their commitment to quality, creativity, and community hospitality.

The Newport Restaurant Group itself is a 100% employee-owned company, meaning that employees are more than just staff members – they have the opportunity to become owners in the business. This unique ownership model fosters a collaborative and motivated work environment where employees can invest their talents and energy, contributing directly to the success of the company and enjoying shared rewards. Working at Waterman Grille means joining one of the strongest and friendliest hospitality teams in New England, focused on delivering exceptional food, outstanding service, and a meaningful workplace culture.

The Grill Cook position at Waterman Grille is a vital role responsible for bringing the restaurant’s culinary vision to life. The ideal candidate will prepare, season, and cook an array of foods including soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other menu items, specializing in the grill station. This requires not only culinary expertise but also precision, a strong sense of urgency, and excellent organizational skills. Flexibility is essential as the role demands availability for days, nights, weekends, and holidays, accommodating the dynamic needs of the restaurant.

In this role, the Grill Cook will work with seasonal and local ingredients, creating dishes inspired by the natural rhythms of the year and the distinctive flavor profile provided by the wood-fired grill. The position calls for a candidate who is passionate about food and eager to contribute to a team that values respect, equity, and collaboration. Employees at Waterman Grille benefit from a supportive workplace culture that promotes growth, teamwork, and ownership.

Compensation for this role ranges from $20 to $24 per hour, reflecting competitive wages in the hospitality industry. Beyond pay, employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including Rhode Island and Massachusetts sick leave policies, a generous company 401k match, and employee ownership opportunities. Other perks include a 35% discount on dining at company restaurants, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), discount programs, tenure rewards, referral bonuses, and holiday appreciation bonuses. Additionally, depending on hours worked annually, employees may become eligible for medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, health reimbursement accounts, telemedicine access, a wholesaler club reimbursement program, and paid vacation time.

Overall, joining Waterman Grille as a Grill Cook offers an exciting opportunity to work in a historic and vibrant setting, be part of a passionate culinary team, and grow within a company committed to its people and community. The role is ideal for those who are enthusiastic about cooking, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, and want to be part of a company that values employee ownership and engagement.
