Job Description

The hiring establishment operates within the vibrant Food & Beverage department, delivering high-quality service in a bustling bar and casino environment. This company is dedicated to creating an inviting and safe atmosphere for its patrons, ensuring that all customer needs are met efficiently and professionally. As part of its commitment to excellence, the organization places a strong emphasis on compliance with legal regulations, particularly those surrounding alcohol consumption. This ensures not only the satisfaction but also the safety of customers and staff alike. The establishment values teamwork, customer relations, and maintaining a clean and attractive bar setting, which reflects its dedication to providing a superior hospitality experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

The role of the bartender is a pivotal position within the Food & Beverage team. This full-time or part-time, hourly, non-exempt position primarily involves bartending duties that focus on meeting customer needs while strictly observing the legal limits of alcohol consumption. Bartenders are responsible for greeting customers warmly, taking and fulfilling orders accurately, and handling customer requests and complaints with professionalism and courtesy. Mixing and serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks according to established recipes is a core function. This includes preparing cocktails by mixing various ingredients such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and bitters, as well as serving wine and draught or bottled beer. Bartenders are also tasked with garnishing drinks with sliced and pitted fruit to enhance presentation.

Custodial tasks are essential to this role, as maintaining a clean bar area contributes significantly to the customer experience. Duties include sweeping, wiping down counter tops, maintaining beer towers, sink areas, reach-in coolers, cupboards, trash removal, and breaking down empty boxes. Bartenders may occasionally mop the hallway behind the bar, demonstrating the position's hands-on and comprehensive approach to service. Managing financial transactions carefully is another critical aspect, as bartenders maintain and balance the cash bank in accordance with banking procedures, collect money for drinks, and provide correct change. Communication with supervisors and management regarding customers who exceed alcohol consumption limits and the need for liquor and supply restocking is vital for operational efficiency and legal compliance.

This position requires individuals to possess current PPABC Liquor Certification or successful completion of the PPABC Liquor Certification course. Bartenders must exhibit excellent verbal communication and customer relations skills to handle diverse customer personalities with ease and confidence. Additionally, knowledge of New Mexico state laws related to liquor consumption is essential. The role demands basic math abilities for cash handling and a strong orientation towards people, ensuring a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable environment for all patrons. Physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods, occasionally lifting up to 35 pounds, and working in an environment exposed to cigarette smoke, noise, and some cleaning chemicals. Shift work covering weekends, holidays, and potential overtime is required, reflecting the dynamic nature of the hospitality industry. This job description encompasses the major responsibilities but notes that employees may be required to perform additional tasks as business needs dictate.
