Job Description

Brews and Bites is a vibrant and popular bar and eatery located on the bustling Chicago Riverwalk at 201-231 W Riverwalk, Chicago, IL 60606. This establishment is renowned for its high-volume service environment, specializing in craft beverages and delicious food options that appeal to both locals and tourists. The venue attracts a steady stream of customers daily, thanks to its prime location along a scenic and highly trafficked area of Chicago. The General Manager position at Brews and Bites is a full-time opportunity offering a competitive salary range of $6,000.00 to $7,000.00 per month, with generous performance bonuses of up to 20% of the salary. This role demands an experienced and results-oriented leader who can manage operations, staff, and drive business growth effectively in a fast-paced, high-traffic setting. The General Manager will serve as the cornerstone of the establishment’s success, overseeing both front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) teams to maintain service excellence and operational efficiency.

In this role, the General Manager is expected to recruit, train, and lead all staff, ensuring a positive, motivated work environment that fosters teamwork and outstanding guest experiences. Key responsibilities include managing daily operations, controlling inventory and costs, scheduling all employees, and supporting marketing initiatives to increase sales and enhance the venue's reputation within the Chicago hospitality community. Additionally, the General Manager is responsible for compliance with Chicago health and liquor laws, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and resolving customer service issues promptly.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a general manager or assistant general manager in a food and beverage environment
  • Ability to manage a team of 10 or more hourly employees
  • Proficiency in scheduling, inventory management, and staff training
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Chicago health and liquor laws and compliance requirements
  • Availability for full-time seasonal contract from July through November 15, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Willingness to work 5-6 days per week with one slow weekday off
  • Ability to commute to Chicago, IL 60606
  • In-person work location

Job Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience managing a high-volume bar or restaurant
  • Strong knowledge of beverage service, food operations, and hospitality management
  • Proven leadership skills with ability to multitask efficiently under pressure
  • Experience with cost control, budgeting, and revenue growth strategies

Job Duties

  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage all floor and kitchen staff

  • Create, manage, and enforce weekly schedules for FOH and BOH staff
  • Monitor and optimize food and beverage inventory, placing orders and controlling waste
  • Increase sales and revenue through strategic menu pricing, promotions, and upselling initiatives
