Job Description
Target Corporation is a prominent American retail giant, widely recognized for its commitment to providing an exceptional shopping experience across thousands of stores nationwide. Established over a century ago, Target has grown to become a beloved household name in retail, renowned for its combination of style, affordability, and quality products ranging from apparel and home goods to electronics and groceries. Working at Target means joining a dynamic and inclusive company culture that values diversity, team collaboration, and individual growth. Target continually invests in its employees, offering numerous opportunities for skill development and career advancement within a positive and supportive environment.
The General Merchandise Expert role at Target embodies the company’s dedication to delivering excellent guest service and maintaining operational efficiency on the sales floor. This position involves managing inventory accuracy, efficient merchandise restocking, price adjustments, promotional setups, and supporting all General Merchandise sections throughout the store. The General Merchandise Expert contributes to providing a consistent and inviting shopping experience, helping guests find what they need while ensuring the store is well-organized, appealing, and fully stocked. Working in this role offers valuable exposure to retail business fundamentals such as department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process optimization—key skills that align well with a long-term career in retail or customer service.
This hourly position offers a competitive starting wage of $18.25 USD per hour and entails a physically active and fast-paced work environment where teamwork, flexibility, and problem-solving are essential. The General Merchandise Expert is entrusted with a variety of responsibilities including receiving and stocking products, arranging merchandise displays, operating powered equipment if certified, maintaining compliance with safety standards, and supporting digital fulfillment processes such as order picking and packing. The position requires excellent guest interaction abilities, as creating a welcoming experience and addressing guest questions promptly are core elements of daily activities.
Target values employees who thrive in collaborative environments and can manage multiple tasks efficiently during busy periods including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times. Training is provided to equip new team members with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed, but personal attributes such as a welcoming attitude, attention to detail, ability to use scanning and communication technology, and physical stamina are essential from the outset. Additionally, the role demands adherence to safety policies and ethical conduct to maintain a secure and compliant workplace.
Beyond the day-to-day duties, being a General Merchandise Expert at Target offers a meaningful and engaging experience. Employees have the chance to positively impact guests’ shopping journeys while building a foundation of retail expertise. Target also prides itself on creating a workplace that supports personal and professional growth, offering a wide range of benefits and resources targeting financial well-being, education, and health. The company promotes diversity and equal opportunity employment practices, including compliance with relevant fair chance ordinances, making Target a welcoming place for all qualified individuals.
With no specific application deadline and ongoing acceptance of applications, this role provides a great opportunity to join a reputable and growing company dedicated to making shopping joyous and accessible for all guests. If you are someone who enjoys working in a dynamic retail setting and contributing to both guest satisfaction and store operations, the General Merchandise Expert position at Target is an excellent career choice to consider.
