Job Description

Target Corporation is a renowned American retailer known for its commitment to delivering outstanding shopping experiences across a wide range of products. As one of the largest big-box retailers in the United States, Target combines a robust corporate culture with a focus on team member development and customer satisfaction. The company offers diverse employment opportunities that value collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity. Working at Target means contributing to a team environment where every family can discover the joy of everyday life through quality products and exceptional guest service.

The General Merchandise Expert role at Target is a vital position within the retail store team, responsible for executing processes that ensure the sales floor and backroom are maintained at the highest standards. This hourly position begins at $15.00 USD per hour and involves various operational duties including inventory management, merchandise setup, pricing accuracy, stocking, and promotional signage. You’ll be a key player in creating an efficient, well-organized shopping environment for guests, enabling them to find the products they want while maintaining store profitability and operational compliance.

As a General Merchandise Expert, your work day will be dynamic and fast-paced, offering you opportunities to engage with guests by providing helpful and welcoming service. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy interacting with others, thrive in an active workplace, and adapt easily to shifting priorities. The position includes tasks such as receiving products, replenishing stock, organizing backroom areas, managing inventory accuracy, and supporting store functions like pick and pack digital order fulfillment. Additionally, depending on certification, you may operate power equipment to safely move merchandise and store fixtures.

This position also emphasizes teamwork and communication, encouraging collaboration among colleagues to streamline store operations and enhance guest satisfaction. You'll develop important skills related to retail fundamentals, including analyzing sales trends, improving process efficiencies, and applying operational procedures that impact product availability and store profitability. Importantly, Target promotes a culture of safety and ethical compliance, so you’ll be expected to follow all safety protocols and contribute to a secure work environment.

Target supports team members with excellent training programs designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools needed to succeed in your role. The company offers a variety of benefits that include financial, educational, and well-being support, making it an employer that invests in your career development and personal growth. Flexibility in your work schedule is anticipated, with variable shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and other peak shopping periods to meet business demands. This role is well-suited for self-starters who can operate independently or as part of a team in a physically demanding role that requires attentiveness and resilience.

By joining Target as a General Merchandise Expert, you’re stepping into a dynamic retail environment where your contributions matter. Your efforts will directly improve guest experiences by ensuring the sales floor is inviting, well-stocked, and responsive to guest needs. This position offers ongoing learning, skill development, and potential career advancement within a supportive and inclusive company culture dedicated to team member success and guest satisfaction.
