Job Description
Target Corporation is a leading American retail giant known for its commitment to offering high-quality products at affordable prices while fostering an inclusive and enjoyable shopping experience for all guests. Established as one of the largest retailers in the United States, Target operates hundreds of stores nationwide, focusing on innovation, community involvement, and guest-centric services that prioritize satisfaction and convenience. The company culture emphasizes teamwork, respect, and continuous development, making Target a sought-after employer for individuals seeking to grow their careers in the retail sector.
The General Merchandise Expert role at Target embodies the heart of the store's operations, particularly within the general merchandise and food sales departments. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, physically active retail environment and are excited to engage with guests to help them find what they need while ensuring the store’s products are always stocked, organized, and accurately priced. Starting at $15.00 USD per hour, this hourly role includes numerous opportunities for skill enhancement, exposure to retail operational fundamentals, and the chance to be an integral part of a team committed to delivering a superior shopping experience.
In this role, the expert is responsible for managing inventory accuracy, merchandising set-up and maintenance, pricing, and promotional activities across the store’s general merchandise areas. The daily tasks are diverse and can include greeting and assisting guests, restocking merchandise, organizing the backroom, operating power equipment (if certified), and supporting fulfillment processes like picking, packing, and assisting with order pickups. Employees develop a comprehensive understanding of retail business fundamentals such as sales trends and process improvements, which are crucial for meeting sales goals and maintaining operational efficiency.
Target emphasizes a culture of ethical behavior, safety, and compliance. The General Merchandise Expert must consistently adhere to safety protocols, report hazards, and contribute to a secure work environment. The role also involves occasional guest service support functions such as cashier backup, demonstrating flexibility and a guest-first attitude throughout the store.
Candidates for this role should be enthusiastic about engaging with both guests and fellow team members, enjoy active roles that require physical stamina, and be comfortable working flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays. Technology use, such as handheld scanners and communication devices, is integral, and the team member should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities efficiently.
Beyond the immediate job duties, employees have access to competitive benefits that support financial well-being, education, and personal health, signaling Target's investment in the long-term success and satisfaction of its team members. This ongoing role offers continuous application opportunities, welcoming dedicated individuals ready to contribute to a world-class retail environment.
