The Global Float Medical Assistant II role at Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics is a vital position designed to support clinical and administrative functions across multiple ACHP locations on a rotating basis. This full-time, onsite role requires a flexible schedule with variable days, offering a consistent 40-hour workweek. The selected candidate will receive a $2,000 taxable sign-on bonus, reflecting the organization's commitment to attracting top talent.

In this position, the Medical Assistant II provides proficient clinical and administrative support under the supervision of Providers and licensed Nurses. The role is essential in preparing patients for examination by taking and recording vital signs, performing phlebotomy when necessary, and administering medications as directed. The Medical Assistant will assist with data collection essential to patient assessment and care planning, contribute to discharge procedures, and handle laboratory specimen processing and submission in compliance with established policies.

The Medical Assistant II will leverage electronic medical record systems like EPIC to ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care. They will also be responsible for managing point-of-service activities including appointment scheduling, co-payment collection, patient tracking, and visit preparation. Department-specific clinical duties may involve point-of-care testing (POCT), hearing and vision screenings, and other procedures as needed. Routine office tasks such as faxing, filing, copying, and keeping examination rooms clean, stocked, and ready for patients fall under this position’s purview as well.

The role requires a proactive approach in establishing and maintaining positive relationships with patients, their families, and colleagues. Problem-solving and triage skills are necessary for managing work-related issues with minimal supervision. The Medical Assistant II will actively participate in departmental process improvement initiatives and consistently follow safety policies to promote a secure environment for all stakeholders.

Candidates should have foundational technical competence including knowledge of medical terminology and experience with Microsoft Office applications like Outlook, Excel, and Word. Experience with electronic medical records, especially EPIC, is preferred. The ideal candidate will have completed a recognized Medical Assistant, EMT, or Paramedic program and hold Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. While prior experience is beneficial, it is not mandatory for this position.
