Job Description
GLK is a beloved mom and pop restaurant group rooted in Oakland, renowned for creating warm, community-focused dining experiences that emphasize hospitality and quality. Recently, GLK expanded their footprint with a brand new location in Noe Valley, San Francisco, a vibrant neighborhood known for its rich culture and diversity. This new establishment continues their legacy of delivering exceptional food and service in a welcoming, neighborhood atmosphere. As a family-owned business, GLK values strong relationships, not only with customers but also with their staff, cultivating a supportive and encouraging workplace environment where every team member is empowered to succeed. The restaurant offers both full-time and part-time employment opportunities, with the full-time position paying an annual salary of $80,000, while part-time hours are compensated at $32 per hour. The schedules for both roles require availability in evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the dynamic and fast-moving nature of the restaurant industry. Full-time managers generally work between 45 to 50 hours per week, while part-time managers work 25 to 35 hours weekly.
The role of Restaurant Manager at GLK's Noe Valley location is vital to the success and smooth operation of this busy new restaurant. This position is designed for experienced management professionals who bring not only detailed operational knowledge but also the emotional intelligence and leadership skills to manage a vibrant, energetic team. As Restaurant Manager, you are the cornerstone of the dining experience and the pivotal leader who sets the tone for the service culture. Your primary responsibility is to cultivate and maintain exceptional service standards, which begins with hiring excellent staff and creating a positive, supportive work environment where employees feel valued and motivated. This requires a keen organizational talent, sharp communication skills, and a blend of kindness and firmness in leadership. The manager is hands-on and visible on the floor, leading by example, addressing challenges head-on, and maintaining composure when unexpected situations arise, such as guest foodborne illness reports or staff injuries. You must be proficient in handling these sensitive situations with professionalism and care, knowing the protocols and next steps to protect guests and team members. Operational responsibilities include effective inventory management, scheduling, and ordering to keep the restaurant well supplied and staffed without waste or excess. The role demands strong knowledge of California labor law, health and safety regulations, and alcohol service standards, ensuring the restaurant is fully compliant at all times. The leadership team at GLK is experienced and collaborative, providing the Restaurant Manager with daily support and the scaffolding needed to thrive in this challenging but rewarding role. A strong, consistent floor presence is mandatory since the Noe Valley location does not have an onsite office, so the manager must be integrated into daily service rather than removed from it. This is a dry workplace where managers and staff are not permitted to consume alcohol on the premises. All managers are expected to be the embodiment of professionalism and energy, capable of walking the fine line between maintaining high standards and fostering a fun, engaging environment for both staff and guests. GLK is not just hiring a manager; they are looking for a leader who thrives in a high-paced hospitality setting, values teamwork, and carries a good sense of humor as they guide a new establishment's opening and ongoing success.
