Job Description
RTI International is a renowned independent scientific research institute committed to improving the human condition through innovative and rigorous scientific investigation. Established to tackle some of the world's most pressing challenges, RTI applies technical and science-based solutions drawn from a multidisciplinary approach integrating expertise across social sciences, statistical analysis, laboratory sciences, engineering, and other technical disciplines. Their mission is to enhance the quality of life and foster sustainable solutions for communities, businesses, and governments both within the United States and around the globe. With a global footprint and a commitment to objectivity and technical excellence, RTI International stands as a trusted partner for clients seeking evidence-based answers to complex problems.
Joining RTI offers a unique opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking organization where science and technology are leveraged daily to make a tangible difference. The Institute is dedicated to pushing boundaries and delivering impactful research outcomes that contribute to a better future. Employees are encouraged to pursue professional development and work collaboratively in an environment that values integrity, innovation, and inclusive teamwork.
Within this prestigious institute, the laboratory group dedicated to international proficiency testing (PT) programs is seeking qualified candidates. This group supports a diverse portfolio of programs for commercial and government clients by preparing, analyzing, and distributing reference materials crucial for evaluating laboratory performance in various analytical disciplines. Their operations are grounded in stringent scientific standards and comply fully with regulatory frameworks, including ISO guidelines, EPA quality systems, and OECD Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
The role focuses on contributing extensively to the analytical and operational aspects of proficiency testing programs. Working hands-on with materials such as asbestos, manmade mineral fibers, and environmental samples, the candidate will support the full laboratory workflow from sample preparation to quality assurance and the distribution of materials worldwide. This requires meticulous attention to detail, a commitment to following established procedures, and the versatility to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team. Key responsibilities include safe handling and preparation of bulk building materials and minerals, performing chemical analyses, conducting optical microscopy, and assisting with the logistical aspects of PT sample packaging and distribution.
Ideal candidates will hold at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related field, complemented by hands-on laboratory experience. Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment, chemical hygiene, and safe handling of asbestos minerals is essential. Candidates must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills along with a keen ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic setting. Familiarity with ISO quality standards and GLP regulations is desirable but not mandatory.
This is a full-time position with an anticipated salary range of $66,000 to $82,000 per year. RTI International offers a comprehensive total rewards package including competitive base salary, generous paid time off, merit-based raises, bonus opportunities, and various insurance plans covering health, dental, life, and disability. Employees also have access to retirement savings programs, parental leave, educational reimbursements, employee assistance programs, and more to ensure a healthy work-life balance.
Joining RTI means becoming part of a global community dedicated to scientific excellence, rigorous quality standards, and impactful research aimed at improving life for people worldwide. If you seek to make a real difference in the world through science and technical expertise, RTI is the ideal place to grow your career and contribute meaningfully to solving some of today’s most complex challenges.
