Job Description
Marriott International is a globally recognized leader in the hospitality industry, known for its commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences across its diverse portfolio of brands. Among these esteemed brands is JW Marriott, part of Marriott International's luxury portfolio, which features more than 100 stunning properties located in gateway cities and unique resort destinations worldwide. Marriott International takes pride in its inclusive, supportive workplace, fostering a culture where associates feel valued, respected, and empowered to be their best selves. JW Marriott, in particular, emphasizes its philosophy that happy associates lead to happy guests, offering a work environment distinguished by community, camaraderie, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
JW Marriott properties strive to create memorable and unique experiences not only for guests but also for associates. The company is committed to holistic well-being, providing comprehensive training, development programs, and recognition initiatives that help associates build meaningful careers within a luxurious and supportive environment. Marriott’s The JW Treatment™ epitomizes their dedication to employee satisfaction, ensuring that employees are treated with respect and care, which in turn creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere for guests.
The opportunity available is for a Runner at the JW Marriott located at 1777 Walker St, Houston, Texas. This is a full-time, non-management position offering an hourly wage of $16.75. The Runner role is pivotal in maintaining smooth operations throughout the hotel by supporting various departments including housekeeping, engineering, banquets, restaurants, and front office. Runners act as vital links within these teams to ensure guests and associates receive timely and efficient assistance when and where it is needed.
Beyond simply moving items, Runners contribute to a seamless and memorable hospitality experience by delivering items directly to guests in their rooms and providing support wherever it’s required across the property. Their responsibilities require them to be on their feet for extended periods, sometimes navigating through confined or elevated spaces, stairs, or ramps. The role demands physical agility and stamina as associates must move, lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 55 pounds independently, and undertake movements such as bending, twisting, and stooping to complete their tasks effectively.
Success in this role involves adhering strictly to company policies and procedures, maintaining confidentiality, ensuring safety, and upholding quality and professional standards including personal appearance and communication. The person in this role must be committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for both guests and fellow team members.
No prior work or supervisory experience is required for this role, making it an excellent entry point for individuals interested in launching a career in hospitality. A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is preferred. JW Marriott encourages a diverse workforce and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer that promotes an inclusive workplace free from discrimination based on disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected category.
Joining JW Marriott means becoming part of an exceptional global community of hospitality professionals. It’s a place where you can do your best work, begin your professional purpose, belong to an amazing team, and grow into the best version of yourself. This role offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to Marriott’s legacy of wonderful hospitality while gaining invaluable experience within a prestigious luxury hotel setting, making it an attractive opportunity for those passionate about guest service and operational excellence.
