The role is crucial to the day-to-day operations of the hotel, directly impacting the guest experience. As a Porter at Marriott Hotels, the employee’s primary function is to facilitate an unforgettable and unique guest experience by supporting various departments throughout the hotel. Porters act as vital collaborators, assisting housekeeping, engineering, banquets, restaurants, front desk, and other areas by delivering items and equipment as needed. This role demands a high level of physical activity, including standing, sitting, walking extensively, and navigating confined spaces, stairs, and ramps.

The Porter must be able to perform a variety of physical tasks such as moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, and placing objects weighing up to 55 pounds without assistance. They also need to be capable of reading and understanding information across multiple formats, inspecting tools and equipment, and adopting a hands-on approach to their duties. Attention to detail, compliance with company policies, maintaining confidentiality, protecting company assets, and adhering to quality standards are fundamental responsibilities. In addition, the employee is expected to present a professional appearance in terms of uniform and personal grooming and maintain effective communication at all times.
