Job Description

Marriott International is a globally recognized leader in the hospitality industry, known for its commitment to providing exceptional guest experiences across a wide range of luxury and full-service hotels. One of its distinguished brands, JW Marriott, represents the pinnacle of luxury and elegance within the Marriott portfolio, featuring more than 100 exquisite hotels located in prime urban centers and resort destinations worldwide. Marriott prides itself on fostering an inclusive, diverse work environment that offers its employees growth, development, and a sense of belonging. The company emphasizes its dedication to equal opportunity employment and actively promotes a culture that values diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Marriott International continually innovates while embracing the timeless traditions of hospitality, ensuring a warm and personalized experience for each guest. Marriott employees are empowered to bring their authentic selves to work, contributing to the brand legacy initiated by its founder, J. Willard Marriott.

The Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront, situated in the heart of Portland, Oregon, is seeking energetic and motivated individuals for a part-time Seasonal Porter position within its Rooms and Guest Services Operations team. This non-management role is essential in delivering seamless support to various hotel departments and ensuring guest satisfaction throughout their stay. Porters at Marriott are integral to upholding the hotel’s standards of service and operational excellence. They serve as vital links between guests and the hotel’s multiple service areas such as housekeeping, engineering, banquets, restaurants, and reception. The role demands physical agility, as porters repeatedly move throughout the property, navigate tighter spaces, stairs, and service ramps, while lifting and transporting items weighing up to 55 pounds without assistance. Effective porters are proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining safety standards, professional appearance, and courteous communication at all times.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, while no previous experience or supervisory responsibility is necessary, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to start or enhance a career in hospitality. Porters are expected to quickly adapt to a fast-paced environment, provide hands-on assistance wherever needed, and contribute positively to the overall guest experience with a genuine hospitable attitude. Marriott’s culture promotes the philosophy that happy employees lead to happy guests, known as The JW Treatment™, which encourages both professional and personal development. Employees working at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront will join a globally connected team that values camaraderie and continuous learning. Working in this role offers insight into the dynamic hotel industry along with opportunities for advancement within Marriott International’s expansive portfolio.
