The company values motivated individuals who are passionate about contributing to the food industry and are eager to establish a lasting relationship within the organization. Known for its commitment to workplace diversity and equal opportunity employment, Smithfield provides a welcoming environment for all candidates, ensuring fair treatment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or any other protected characteristic.

The General Production team member role at Smithfield Foods offers an exciting opportunity to join a team focused on delivering safe, high-quality food products to consumers. The position primarily involves operating hand tools, knives, machinery, and various equipment essential in processing meat products. This role demands physical stamina, attentiveness, and precise coordination to maintain the highest standards of safety and quality throughout the production process. Employees in this role are integral to the daily operations, supporting team members, and contributing to a positive, efficient work environment.

This is a physically demanding position that requires employees to work on their feet for long periods, handle repetitive tasks, and operate in varying temperature environments ranging from cold rooms of approximately 20-40 degrees to warm processes exceeding 100 degrees. In addition, comprehensive health insurance, retirement benefits, and educational assistance programs are available for both full-time and part-time employees who meet eligibility requirements.

The company emphasizes safety and proper use of personal protective equipment, including hard hats, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes. Employees must also be comfortable working in environments with animal carcasses, strong odors, and sanitation chemicals. Physical demands include bending, stooping, twisting, climbing ladders, and potentially lifting heavy objects, sometimes requiring certification for specific equipment operation. This role is vital in ensuring that Smithfield’s products reach families across America safely and efficiently, highlighting the importance of each team member's contribution to the overall mission.

Smithfield's culture promotes continuous professional development and encourages learning and growth within the company. Employees are supported through various programs and benefits designed to enhance their personal and professional lives.
