The General Manager (GM) at Thorntons plays a crucial role in the successful operation of the store. This leadership position is responsible for managing all aspects of the business to ensure guests are delighted and business objectives are met. In this position, the General Manager leads the execution of daily operational plans and ensures compliance with safety, food production, and quality standards. They manage financial performance by analyzing reports, controlling costs, tracking inventory, and making strategic decisions to improve profitability. Recruiting, hiring, and scheduling team members to ensure sufficient coverage is an essential part of the role, along with developing talent through career path guidance and coaching. The GM also plays a key role in resolving guest service issues by empowering team members and maintaining positive community relationships that enhance the brand.
Apart from operational duties, the General Manager maintains communication with team members and leadership to motivate and inspire actions consistent with Thorntons’ overall strategy. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED
- minimum three years single-unit management experience in retail and/or food and beverage industries
- must have reliable transportation
- valid driver's license preferred
- ability to obtain food safety and handling certifications if not already possessed
- ability to climb ladders and perform physical tasks such as standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, squatting, climbing, walking, and lifting up to 55 lbs
- exposure to extreme weather conditions, gasoline fumes, and cleaning products
- regular and predictable in-person attendance
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or GED
- minimum three years single-unit management experience in retail and/or food and beverage industries
- food safety and handling certifications preferred or ability to obtain one
- experience with PeopleMatter, Workday, Reflexis, PDI, and ESO is a plus
- valid driver's license preferred
- reliable transportation
Job Duties
- Drive a safety culture by ensuring a clean, organized, and safe environment for all team members and guests
- create a place of welcoming and belonging for our guests and team members
- oversee the daily execution of the store operating system through management of the game plans to deliver a consistent guest/brand experience
- grow top line P&L performance and control key financial lines
- track and manage inventory through count execution and submitting accurate orders
- delegate tasks to subordinate team members and follow up to ensure proper completion
- engage and lead company initiatives
- oversee food production to ensure food safety requirements are consistently met and par levels are maintained
- develop well trained team members by following Thorntons' training processes
- support and guide team members through career path and hold them accountable through coaching and discipline
- recruit, interview, hire and schedule all team members to ensure adequate coverage
- train and empower team members to de-escalate guest service issues
- communicate positively with team members to motivate and inspire them
- comply with all federal, state, and local inspections by taking immediate and appropriate action
- promote sales and profits by working within the local community
- regular and predictable in-person attendance
- perform additional duties as assigned
