The role of General Manager at Petco is a full-time, in-store leadership position based at the Petco store located at 24413 Crenshaw Blvd., Ste 8, Torrance, CA 90505. This critical leadership role requires managing a high-performing Pet Care Center that prioritizes exceptional animal welfare, customer experience, team engagement, and business results. The General Manager acts as the owner of their business, accountable for people, performance, and processes. This role entails leading a collaborative and energized team, coaching partners to deliver superior service, driving profitable sales growth, and upholding Petco's rigorous standards of care and safety for animals.

A typical day involves being highly present on the store floor to inspire and guide partners, engage customers, and ensure the health and safety of animals in the care center. The General Manager also oversees operational and financial performance by managing budgets, labor, inventory, and merchandising to align with brand and safety standards. Additionally, they serve as ambassadors for Petco within the local community by organizing and participating in adoption events and partnerships that strengthen the company’s positive impact on pet welfare.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Strong people leadership skills
  • Solid business and financial acumen

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to safely lift and move merchandise or animals up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in proximity to animals and handle related environmental exposures
  • Availability for occasional travel
  • Ability to work full-time

  • Lead performance management, coaching, and accountability for all partners

  • Maintain store appearance, cleanliness, and safety standards
  • Protect pets, partners, and merchandise through strong loss prevention and inventory controls
  • Complete required administrative, payroll, and inventory tasks accurately and on time
