Job Description

The Standard, located in NYC's iconic Meatpacking District, is a hospitality company distinguished by its innovative approach to blending bold design, immersive experiences, and local culture. Since its inception in 1999, The Standard has become a landmark of hospitality excellence, featuring 338 rooms with breathtaking floor-to-ceiling views and a suite of vibrant amenities such as a bustling beer garden, the renowned Top of The Standard, the Le Bain rooftop discotheque, and The Standard Grill, a staple in NYC's dining scene. This dynamic environment showcases a unique commitment to delivering unparalleled guest experiences that seamlessly combine energy, style, and comfort in a setting that elevates the expectations for guest services in the hospitality sector.

The General Manager (GM) role at The Standard’s Biergarten presents an exceptional leadership opportunity to spearhead daily operations, ensuring a superior guest experience while driving profitability and maintaining brand integrity. The GM acts as the pivotal figure in creating an engaging, high-energy atmosphere that not only delights guests but also fosters a sense of community and brand loyalty. This role requires a leader capable of managing front-of-house operations, recruiting and training staff to embody The Standard’s values of excellence in hospitality, and ensuring the smooth running of daily shifts with a keen eye on operational efficiency and safety standards.

Beyond operational duties, the General Manager is also responsible for critical financial management functions such as budgeting, sales target setting, cost control, and financial data analysis. Collaborating closely with marketing teams, the GM helps craft promotions, special events, and brand initiatives designed to keep The Standard at the forefront of the competitive hospitality landscape. Moreover, the role demands a forward-thinking leader who continuously tracks industry trends and competitor insights to maintain a competitive edge.

Leadership and culture are central to this position. The GM fosters a diverse and inclusive team environment that prioritizes engagement, motivation, and performance. Emphasizing authentic and energetic leadership, the General Manager ensures that team members feel empowered and aligned with The Standard’s mission of creating memorable guest experiences. This includes upholding the brand’s core values within every aspect of the operation to cultivate a welcoming and dynamic space.

Compensation for this position ranges between $100,000 and $110,000 annually, reflecting the high level of responsibility and expertise required. The Standard offers a comprehensive benefits package including excellent and affordable healthcare coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, pet insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, generous paid time off totaling 160 hours per year plus company-recognized holidays, and various employee discounts across rooms, food and beverage, retail, and the Standard Marketplace. Additionally, employees enjoy meals, commuter discounts, referral programs, and regular staff events that contribute to a rewarding and enjoyable workplace culture.

Overall, the General Manager role at The Standard’s Biergarten is ideal for a passionate, experienced hospitality professional who thrives in high-energy, fast-paced environments and is dedicated to elevating both guest experience and team performance in one of New York City’s most celebrated hospitality destinations.
