The role of General Manager at Petco is a dynamic and impactful leadership position within the Pet Care Center, focused on delivering exceptional care and experiences for pets and pet parents while driving strong business results. As a General Manager, you will be the owner of your store's operations, responsible for the people, performance, and processes that define the success of your Pet Care Center. Leading with integrity, you will champion humane treatment, safety, and wellness for all animals in the care center.
Responsibilities include recruiting, developing, and retaining diverse talent to build an inclusive, engaged team that delivers excellent customer service and fosters a fun, collaborative workplace. You will manage business operations by analyzing financial performance, optimizing labor and expenses, executing merchandising and inventory policies, and ensuring operational excellence in security, store upkeep, and loss prevention. Your leadership will extend beyond the store, representing Petco in the community through local events, adoption efforts, and partnerships that reinforce Petco's positive impact.
Success in this role is measured by creating a safe, healthy environment for pets, a motivated and well-supported team, loyal and satisfied customers, and a profitable, well-run Pet Care Center that exemplifies Petco's values. The position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and physical capability to engage in a retail environment involving standing, walking, lifting, and interaction with animals.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- 3+ years of management experience (retail leadership preferred)
- Strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development skills
- Solid business, financial, and operational acumen
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- A genuine passion for pets and customer service
- Completion of Petco leadership development programs may be required for internal candidates
