As a General Manager at Petco, you will lead a high-performing Pet Care Center that places pets at the forefront, inspires teams, delights customers, and drives profitable business performance. You will own your business’s overall success, accountable for people management, operations, and processes, serving as a role model for leadership excellence. This leadership role requires a passion for pets and people, with responsibilities including leading engaged teams, ensuring exceptional animal care and safety, and fostering outstanding customer experiences.
In this role, you will champion the health and humane care of animals, ensuring compliance with Petco standards and policies, while creating welcoming and supportive environments for pets and their parents. Your leadership will cultivate an inclusive, collaborative culture where team members feel engaged, supported, and empowered through ongoing coaching and development. Operational excellence will be a priority, managing financial performance, labor, payroll, inventory, and merchandising to boost growth and maintain safety and brand standards.
You will represent Petco as a community leader, driving local events, adoption initiatives, and partnerships to strengthen Petco’s social impact. Success in this position means maintaining a safe and healthy environment where pets thrive, building a high-performing team with strong retention, and cultivating loyal customers who trust and return to your Pet Care Center. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED preferred
- 3+ years of management experience with retail leadership preferred
- strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development skills
- solid business, financial, and operational knowledge
- excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- genuine passion for pets and customer service
- ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- ability to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds
- ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and lift frequently
- willingness to engage regularly with customers and work in proximity to animals with exposure to dander, odors, and cleaning chemicals
- ability to travel occasionally for training, meetings, or community engagement
- full-time availability according to company policies
Job Qualifications
- 3+ years of management experience with retail leadership preferred
- strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development skills
- solid business, financial, and operational acumen
- excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- a genuine passion for pets and customer service
- high school diploma or GED preferred
- completion of Petco leadership development programs may be required for internal candidates

- review and act on reporting, audits, and Pet Care Center visits

- protect pets, partners, and merchandise through strong loss prevention and inventory controls
- complete required administrative, payroll, and inventory tasks accurately and on time
