The role of General Manager - Retail at Hines is a pivotal position that requires balancing operational oversight with a deep understanding of retail and hospitality. The General Manager is accountable for increasing the economic value of the property and guiding it towards becoming one of the most experiential and influential retail environments in the market.
The General Manager will blend expertise in retail brands, merchandising strategies, and operational management with leadership skills to foster a top-tier hospitality culture. The position requires an understanding of multiple retail sectors including luxury, fashion, food and beverage, entertainment, and experiential retail concepts. The General Manager will lead cross-functional teams, ensuring that service standards are upheld across a mixed-use property comprising office and retail components.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum 5 years of mixed-use management experience with retail emphasis
- Financial experience including P&L responsibility and budget oversight
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Completion of Hines Property Management Training Program or equivalent
- Passion for hospitality and people leadership
- High emotional intelligence
- Experience leading complex teams and coordinating stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Physical ability to work indoors 90% and outdoors 10% of the time
- Ability to perform physical inspections including stairs climbing
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs
- Availability for emergency onsite operations
- Willingness to transfer properties and work overtime

Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferably in business administration, hospitality, real estate or related field
- Minimum 5 years of mixed-use management experience with emphasis in retail
- Financial experience including P&L responsibility, budget oversight, cost analysis, and service contract management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Completion of Hines Property Management Training Program or equivalent real estate knowledge
- Passion for hospitality and leading with a people-oriented mindset
- High emotional intelligence and creative thinking skills
- Experience leading multi-layered teams and coordinating diverse stakeholders
- Strong analytical and solution-oriented approach

Job Duties
- Train, mentor, and develop all property personnel in hospitality experience
- Demonstrate leadership coordinating cross-functional teams supporting commercial and retail operations
- Foster a unified hospitality experience across diverse tenant types
- Engage the community and build relationships with stakeholders
- Apply hospitality hiring practices for personnel and service providers
- Lead third-party service providers in delivering hospitality standards
- Supervise event programming for community atmosphere
- Ensure property service offerings align with company standards
- Manage operations including maintenance, security, parking, and housekeeping
- Provide oversight of mixed-use property with office and retail components
- Integrate retail and office operations for cohesive tenant experience
- Supervise financial performance, monitor sales, rent collection, and capital expenditures
- Draft and present Annual Business Plan and Operating Budget
- Oversee marketing and leasing strategies with asset managers
- Negotiate contracts and supervise contractor services
- Collaborate on building operations to meet standards
- Monitor construction compliance and documentation
- Maintain property aesthetics and compliance with regulations
- Support development groups and represent company in organizations
- Recommend legal action to protect the project
- Direct emergency procedures including plans, drills, and safety
- Assume responsibilities delegated by Director - Property Management
