Located at 163 Highland Avenue, Needham, MA, this full-time, on-site position is an exciting opportunity to join Petco's dynamic team. The General Manager role is pivotal in bringing Petco's mission to life by leading a high-performing Pet Care Center that prioritizes pets' health and well-being, inspires team partners, delights customers, and drives strong business outcomes. The General Manager is responsible for owning the business, overseeing people, performance, and processes, and modeling exemplary leadership qualities.

The General Manager leads with passion, integrity, and transparency, ensuring that the Care Center operates safely and efficiently while delivering exceptional customer experiences. From an operational standpoint, the General Manager drives sales growth, profitability, and operational excellence by analyzing financials, managing labor and payroll, executing merchandising and inventory strategies, and representing Petco in the local community through events and partnerships. The position demands frequent on-floor presence to directly engage with partners, customers, and pets, with physical duties including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds safely. Working conditions involve exposure to animal dander, odors, and cleaning supplies. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is required, as is occasional travel for training and community involvement.

The salary range for the General Manager in this location is between $50,000 and $92,500, depending on experience and other factors. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 3+ years of management experience (retail leadership preferred)
  • Strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development skills
  • Solid business, financial, and operational acumen
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
  • A genuine passion for pets and customer service
  • Completion of Petco leadership development programs may be required for internal candidates
  • Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Flexible availability to support Pet Care Center operating hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Eligibility for full-time status as defined by company policy and applicable law
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for training, meetings, or community engagement

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

  • Review and act on reporting, audits, and Pet Care Center visits

  • Maintain store appearance, cleanliness, and safety standards
  • Protect pets, partners, and merchandise through strong loss prevention and inventory controls
  • Complete required administrative, payroll, and inventory tasks accurately and on time
