Job Description

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc., commonly known as Petco, is a leading pet specialty retailer in the United States with over 1,500 stores and 250+ Vetco Total Care hospitals throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Founded over 60 years ago, Petco is a company deeply rooted in the pet care industry, dedicated to helping pets live their best lives by providing everything from premium meals and toys to trusted supplies and expert support. The company prides itself on fostering a culture centered on the bond between pets and their owners, and it actively promotes animal welfare through initiatives such as Petco Love, its nonprofit arm founded in 1999, which has helped find homes for approximately 7 million animals through adoption events and partnerships with local animal welfare organizations.

Petco's commitment extends beyond pet care; it embraces core values including "Pet First – Protect & Empower," which prioritizes pet health and safety, "Foster the Fun – Connect & Bond," which celebrates pet parenthood, and "Let's Go! Own & Commit," which emphasizes teamwork, authenticity, and shared success. With a workforce of over 29,000 team members who bring their unique skills and passions to work every day, Petco creates an inclusive environment that welcomes everyone to be their whole selves while nurturing both personal wellbeing and professional growth.

The General Manager role at Petco represents a vital leadership position accountable for overseeing a Pet Care Center's full operations, driving business growth, and upholding the highest standards of animal care and customer service. This full-time, onsite role based at 3750 Mystic Valley Parkway, Medford, MA, requires a hands-on leader who thrives on managing people, performance, and processes. The General Manager embodies the brand values by championing pet health and safety, fostering an engaged and diverse team, leading the store to achieve financial and operational goals, and ensuring customers and pets receive an exceptional experience. This role also involves active participation in the local community by leading initiatives such as adoption events and partnerships to amplify Petco's positive impact.

As a General Manager, you will be responsible for creating a welcoming environment for pets and pet parents, leading a motivated team to deliver excellent service, and managing all aspects of the business including sales growth, labor management, inventory control, and store appearance. You will utilize data insights and company tools to analyze store performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and maintain compliance with safety and operational standards. This leadership role demands excellent communication, organizational abilities, problem-solving skills, and an authentic passion for pets and customer satisfaction.

Petco offers a competitive salary range of $50,000 to $92,500 for this position, with comprehensive total rewards including health and dental insurance, 401K, incentives, and paid time off. The role also demands flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by store operating hours. Petco is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion and supports employees with development programs and meaningful career pathways. If you're passionate about pet care and leadership, and want to make a real difference in a purpose-driven company, Petco is the ideal place to grow your career and shape the future of pet retail.
