Job Description

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is a well-established leader in the pet care retail industry, proudly serving pet parents and their beloved animals for over 60 years. With a vast network of more than 1,500 stores across the United States, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, along with over 250 Vetco Total Care hospitals and numerous preventive care clinics, Petco is widely recognized as a destination where pets and their owners can find everything needed to ensure pets live their best lives. The company thrives on its core values of Pet First, Foster the Fun, and Let’s Go, which emphasize a deep commitment to pet wellness, community, and authentic, passionate teamwork.

Petco has built a strong reputation by prioritizing the health, safety, and happiness of animals, supported by a team of more than 29,000 employees who share a genuine passion for pets. The company’s founding of Petco Love in 1999 reflects its dedication to animal welfare, contributing to thousands of local animal welfare initiatives and facilitating the adoption of approximately 7 million animals nationwide through in-store events. Petco not only sells pet products but also provides trusted expert support from people who genuinely understand pet parenthood and the bonds formed between pets and humans.

The role of General Manager at Petco is a pivotal leadership position that embodies the company’s mission. This role is a full-time opportunity, with hourly or salaried pay ranging between $33.50 and $55.50 per hour, dependent on factors such as experience, location, and market conditions. The General Manager acts as the owner of their Pet Care Center, overseeing people, operational performance, and processes to ensure high standards of animal care, customer satisfaction, and business results. This leader is responsible for inspiring teams, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for pets and pet parents, and driving profitable business outcomes while upholding Petco’s values and commitment to ethical practices.

In this role, you will lead by example on the sales floor, fostering an inclusive and engaged team culture. You will be charged with attracting, developing, and coaching diverse talent, creating an atmosphere where employees feel valued and supported. Your leadership will drive operational excellence, including managing labor, payroll, inventory, merchandising, and loss prevention measures. Additionally, you will represent Petco in the community by spearheading local events, adoption programs, and partnerships that further the company’s outreach and impact. Your efforts will directly influence customer loyalty, employee retention, and the overall success of your Pet Care Center, making your position integral to Petco's continued growth and positive brand reputation.

The General Manager position at Petco is performed primarily in a retail environment where the presence and engagement with partners, customers, and pets are essential. This role requires regular physical activity such as standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in proximity to animals and cleaning products. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is necessary to meet the operating needs of the center. Petco provides a supportive and inclusive workplace that embraces continuous learning, career development, and authentic expression, making it a rewarding career destination for people devoted to improving the lives of pets and their families.
