As a General Manager at Petco, you will play a crucial role in leading a high-performing Pet Care Center that puts pets first, inspires team members, delights customers, and drives strong business results. This full-time role involves ownership and accountability for people, performance, and processes. You will act as a role model for great leadership by fostering an inclusive, energized team culture, building engaged teams, and ensuring the operational excellence of your store. Your passion for pets and customer service will help you attract, coach, and develop diverse talent and champion a positive and collaborative environment. The General Manager is responsible for driving sales growth, profitability, and maintaining the store’s appearance and safety standards, while also representing Petco in the community through local events, adoption initiatives, and partnerships that strengthen the company’s impact.
The role demands strong leadership and organizational skills, a genuine passion for pets, and a commitment to upholding Petco’s core values: Pet First - prioritizing pet health and safety; Foster the Fun - creating joyful connections through pet-focused experiences; and Let's Go! - owning the business and committing to success together as One Petco team. The General Manager must be regularly present on the sales floor, able to engage with team members and customers, and manage the operational and financial aspects of the Pet Care Center. This position involves standing, walking, bending, lifting merchandise or animals up to 50 pounds, and exposure to animal-related environments. Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.

Job Requirements
- 3+ years of management experience
- high school diploma or GED preferred
- ability to manage and lead teams effectively
- strong communication and problem-solving skills
- passion for pets and customer service
- ability to handle physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds
- flexibility to work evenings weekends and holidays
- comfortable working in a retail pet care environment
- eligible to work full-time
- willingness to travel occasionally for training or community events
Job Qualifications
- 3+ years of management experience retail leadership preferred
- strong people leadership coaching and talent development skills
- solid business financial and operational acumen
- excellent communication problem-solving and organizational abilities
- a genuine passion for pets and customer service
- high school diploma or GED preferred
- completion of Petco leadership development programs may be required for internal candidates

- Develop a strong leadership bench and succession plan

- Meet or exceed sales profitability and operational goals
- Leverage Petco tools programs and insights to grow the business
- Review and act on reporting audits and Pet Care Center visits

- Protect pets partners and merchandise through strong loss prevention and inventory controls
- Complete required administrative payroll and inventory tasks accurately and on time
