Business acumen is paramount for success in this position. The General Manager will own the business by driving sales growth, profitability, and operational excellence. You will monitor financial and operational metrics, identifying opportunities and taking decisive actions to improve the store’s performance. Managing labor, payroll, inventory, and merchandising effectively while adhering to brand and safety standards is essential. Community engagement is also a key element, representing Petco at local events, adoption initiatives, and partnerships that strengthen the company’s impact and foster stronger connections with customers and pet lovers.

This role demands physical capabilities such as standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The General Manager will regularly collaborate with customers, partners, and pets on the sales floor of a fast-paced retail environment and must be comfortable working near animals, including exposure to animal dander and cleaning chemicals. Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays is required to support store operating hours. Occasional travel for training, meetings, or community activities may also be necessary.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Strong people leadership and coaching skills
  • Solid business, financial, and operational knowledge

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays
