Job Description

HMSHost is a global hospitality leader dedicated to delivering exceptional service and memorable experiences to travelers around the world. Known for its extensive footprint in travel venues such as airports and motorways, HMSHost combines size, resources, and industry expertise to provide outstanding opportunities for career growth and professional development. The company fosters a culture of engagement, appreciation, and inclusion, ensuring every associate has the support and recognition needed to thrive in their roles. With a strong commitment to competitive wages, robust benefits, and a focus on employee well-being, HMSHost is an employer of choice for individuals passionate about hospitality and service excellence.

The General Manager I (GM) position at HMSHost is a pivotal leadership role responsible for managing a quick-service restaurant (QSR) or a small cluster of restaurants with sales generally up to $5 million annually. This role demands a dynamic leader capable of overseeing all operational and financial aspects of the assigned restaurant(s), ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, staffing, and service excellence are consistently met. The GM uses broad discretion and sound judgment to make leadership decisions that drive restaurant success. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and typically reports to a Director of Operations or relevant area leader. The GM must be adaptable to a varied and rotating schedule, ensuring presence during opening, peak, and closing shifts to effectively manage team performance and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities include ensuring all shifts are adequately staffed, coaching and motivating employees, managing financial performance including profit and loss accountability, and maintaining compliance with safety, health, and operational policies. The General Manager will also be deeply involved in recruitment, hiring, and associate development, promoting HMSHost as a top employer, and championing diversity and inclusion efforts within their unit. Operational duties include managing supply chain processes, maintaining product availability, overseeing equipment maintenance, and applying company technologies and systems effectively. The role also emphasizes embracing brand standards, implementing marketing and promotional programs, and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for guests and staff alike.

Ideal candidates for this role have a strong background in restaurant management, typically with 3 or more years managing similar operations and a total of 5 to 7 years in the foodservice industry. Educational credentials like a degree in Food Service Management or Culinary Arts may be considered in lieu of some experience. Candidates must be skilled in team management, issue resolution, and multitasking priorities while demonstrating a solid understanding of HMSHost’s operational standards and commitment to customer service excellence. The salary for this role ranges from $55,696 to $61,037 per year, reflecting the level of responsibility and expertise required. HMSHost offers managers comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, retirement plans with company match, tuition reimbursement, and more, making it a highly rewarding place to build a career in hospitality.
