Job Description
HMSHost is a global leader in the hospitality and food service industry, specializing in managing and operating restaurants and retail outlets in travel venues such as airports, highways, and other major transportation hubs. The company is committed to providing exceptional guest experiences through its vast network of quick-service restaurants (QSR), casual dining, and full-service establishments. With a dedication to innovation, continuous improvement, and employee development, HMSHost supports a diverse workforce and fosters an inclusive environment where people from all backgrounds can succeed and grow their careers. Known for its strong emphasis on safety, quality, and service standards, HMSHost blends global expertise with local market understanding to create profitable and sustainable business operations in locations worldwide.
The General Manager I (GM) role at HMSHost is a dynamic leadership position responsible for managing a single quick-service restaurant or a small group of restaurants or points-of-sale with sales generally up to $5 million. This exempt position holds significant responsibility for ensuring the restaurant's operational excellence, financial performance, and exceptional customer experience. The GM ensures the establishment is clean, properly staffed, compliant with all health and safety regulations, and meets high standards of service quality. A key part of the GM's role involves using discretion and leadership skills to make strategic decisions that drive the restaurant's success while fostering a positive work environment.
The GM leads team members by setting clear expectations, coaching, and motivating employees to achieve operational goals. This role includes responsibilities such as staffing and scheduling to maximize profitability, managing inventory and product availability, maintaining equipment, and overseeing vendor relationships. The General Manager also ensures compliance with all relevant food safety and health standards, promotes diversity and inclusion within the restaurant, and champions all employee engagement behaviors. Moreover, the manager utilizes various management information systems and tools to analyze financial and operational data to inform decision-making.
Additional duties include managing daily opening and closing procedures, implementing marketing programs, resolving customer and employee issues, and leading training efforts to develop team members’ skills and knowledge. The GM actively contributes to business growth by ensuring the restaurant's visual appeal and operational vibe align with brand standards and customer expectations. HMSHost emphasizes workplace safety, requiring the GM to uphold strict health and safety protocols and maintain knowledge of current legal requirements.
This position reports to a Director of Operations or other senior leaders, requiring flexibility to work varied and rotating schedules, including opening, busy, and closing shifts. HMSHost offers a comprehensive benefits package featuring health, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid time off, a 401(k) plan with company match, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, employee assistance programs, and career advancement opportunities. The company supports its employees with training, referral bonuses, and ensures all benefits may vary by position.
HMSHost is dedicated to equal employment opportunity and diversity, ensuring workplace standards free from discrimination based on protected characteristics.
