The atmosphere here invites a blend of creative flair, fresh perspectives, and new ideas, making it more than just a workplace but a place where one can shape extraordinary guest experiences and contribute to an already celebrated hotel legacy.
The role available at Hotel Commonwealth is a senior leadership position with overall management responsibility for all operations of the hotel. This includes ensuring profitability, guest service excellence, product quality, and maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of the property. The position is framed within the context of adhering to approved budgets, marketing, capital expenditures, wage plans, and overall company policies and procedures. The General Manager leads an Executive Committee through a participative style, promoting communication and coordination across different departments. Key responsibilities also include development and management of the annual operating budget, quarterly setting and reviewing of departmental objectives, effective forecasting of costs and staffing, detailed critique of financial statements, and maintaining strong staff relations to reduce turnover and enhance morale.
Further duties involve conducting staff evaluations and development plans, hiring qualified management, maintaining rigorous cost controls and wage administration, and continuously reviewing future business bookings and pricing strategies to optimize revenue. The General Manager also oversees regular inspections of the property to uphold high standards of guest service and facility maintenance, leads the development and implementation of the annual sales and marketing plan, and ensures effective community relations to position the hotel as a responsible corporate citizen. Additionally, this role requires oversight of front office management, credit policies, food and beverage promotion programs, and adherence to all company procedures.
Educationally, a four-year college degree or equivalent experience is required alongside previous experience as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager in a similar-sized hotel or experience as a department head at the same facility. Advanced knowledge of hospitality and business management, strong communication skills, the ability to make independent decisions within company guidelines, and proficiency in analyzing complex information to improve practices are essential. Physically, the role requires frequent mobility to inspect various hotel areas and the ability to manage tasks within a dynamic office and hotel environment.
The compensation for this role ranges from USD 250,000 to USD 275,000 per year. In addition to a competitive salary, employees benefit from exceptional perks at Sage Hotels & Restaurants, including comprehensive health coverage (medical, vision, and dental), prime city-center location with easy access to public transportation, complimentary meals during shifts, commuter benefits in partnership with MBTA, and a vibrant workplace culture celebrating creativity, passion, and belonging. Joining Hotel Commonwealth means becoming part of a community dedicated to pushing the boundaries of hospitality and guest experience excellence.
