Located in Boston, Massachusetts, the American Cancer Society is currently seeking a dedicated Full-Time Hope Lodge General Manager to join its passionate team. This leadership role is vital in providing operational and strategic oversight to the Hope Lodge—a unique facility offering free, temporary lodging and support to cancer patients and their caregivers who must travel for treatment. The General Manager will spearhead efforts to optimize guest experience by ensuring exceptional hospitality, support services, and accommodations that align with the organization’s core mission.

The Hope Lodge General Manager’s position demands a dynamic leader capable of inspiring and managing a high-performing team, cultivating partnerships with health systems, donors, and volunteers, and ensuring adherence to organizational standards. With a strategic mindset and operational expertise, the incumbent will drive the implementation of key initiatives such as ACS EMPOWER to streamline lodge operations and enhance overall effectiveness. The role measures success through guest satisfaction, occupancy growth, operational proficiency, and prudent financial stewardship.

The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all facets of lodge operations, including guest services, facility maintenance, compliance, budget management, and financial monitoring. The ability to lead with compassion and resilience is critical, as the role involves supporting guests navigating health challenges and fostering a culture of service excellence and accountability among staff.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit management healthcare administration or hospitality management
  • Proven leadership experience in a nonprofit healthcare or hospitality setting
  • Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strategic mindset with ability to lead operational excellence
  • Experience managing budgets and financial performance
  • Ability to recruit coach and retain a high-performing team
  • Ability to build partnerships with health systems donors and volunteers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and hotel management systems
  • Occasional travel required for meetings training and donor or community engagement events
  • Physical mobility to move around the lodge facility including walking standing and navigating various areas
  • Ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting carrying and moving equipment or supplies particularly during setup or maintenance activities
  • Willingness to work extended hours including evenings weekends and holidays
  • Capacity for extended periods of computer work including data entry email communication financial management and report generation
  • Emotional resilience to provide compassionate support to guests and staff during challenging situations or interactions

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Drive implementation of strategic initiatives including ACS EMPOWER to optimize lodge operations and align with ACS mission
  • Lead coach and develop lodge staff to foster a culture of service excellence collaboration and accountability
  • Oversee all lodge operations including guest services facility maintenance and compliance with ACS standards
  • Enhance community partnerships donor engagement and volunteer participation to expand lodge impact
  • Manage budgets monitor financial performance and implement cost-effective operational strategies
  • Track analyze and report key performance metrics to inform decision-making and continuous improvement
