Job Description

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is a leading pet specialty retailer in the United States, with a proud history spanning over 60 years of serving pet parents and their beloved animals. Known widely as "where the pets go," Petco operates more than 1,500 stores across the U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rico, along with over 250 Vetco Total Care hospitals and numerous preventive care clinics and distribution centers. The company’s mission is to foster the bond between pets and people by offering a comprehensive range of products and expert services designed to help pets live their best lives. Petco is more than just a retailer; it is a community partner deeply invested in animal welfare, supporting thousands of local animal welfare groups through initiatives such as in-store adoption events which have helped find homes for approximately 7 million animals to date. With a workforce of over 29,000 employees, Petco cultivates a culture that emphasizes core values: putting pets first by protecting and empowering them, fostering joy and connection through passionate pet care, and owning commitments as one unified team dedicated to authenticity and success.

The General Manager role at Petco is an exciting and impactful leadership opportunity within the Pet Care Center retail environment. This full-time, in-store position is based at 7400 East Hampden Avenue, Denver, CO, and carries a competitive salary range from $69,500 to $115,100 annually, commensurate with experience and location. As a General Manager, you will be the driving force behind a high-performing store that prioritizes pet health, customer satisfaction, and business growth. Your responsibilities include owning the entire business operation — from ensuring animal safety and care standards to leading and inspiring an engaged team, maximizing profitability, and uplifting the customer experience. You will manage everything from sales analysis, financials, labor, and payroll, to ensuring operational excellence including merchandising, inventory management, and loss prevention. This leadership position requires a hands-on approach, welcoming a collaborative and inclusive culture where the team enjoys their work while meeting targeted goals.

The role demands a strong passion for pets and people, combining exceptional communication and organizational skills with commercial acumen to guide the Pet Care Center team effectively. General Managers at Petco are role models who foster continuous learning, employee development, and a positive work environment. With responsibilities extending to the community, you will lead Petco’s local engagement efforts including adoption initiatives and events that strengthen the brand’s connection with pet lovers. Essential physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and walk frequently throughout your shift, and work in an environment with exposure to animal dander and cleaning agents. Flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is part of this dynamic role. Petco also provides support for leadership development and career advancement, making this an ideal role for individuals who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of pets and pet owners alike.
