Job Description
Sodexo is a global leader in quality of life services, providing integrated food, facilities management, and workplace experience solutions across diverse sectors. At the forefront of these services, Sodexo is committed to improving daily lives by delivering exceptional standards in food and hospitality, particularly in specialized environments like healthcare. With a robust presence worldwide, Sodexo supports institutions ranging from schools to senior living communities, helping them operate efficiently while elevating customer and employee experiences. Recognized for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and sustainable development, Sodexo fosters a culture where employees feel valued and empowered.
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Chef Manager to join our team at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gouverneur, located in Lower Manhattan. This healthcare facility combines a skilled nursing center with a comprehensive health system, servicing a diverse patient demographic. The Gouverneur Healthcare Services encompasses a 295-bed skilled nursing facility that offers unique culinary challenges and opportunities beyond traditional hospital meal services.
The Chef Manager role is more than a culinary position; it is a leadership role requiring hands-on management of a decentralized cook-serve operation with dining rooms on every floor. This setup demands culinary expertise tailored to a multicultural palate, with an emphasis on American and Asian cuisines, alongside managing a small catering service. Reporting directly to senior management, the Chef Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations—from production and menu execution to inventory control and employee engagement. Leadership skills are critical as the role involves managing a team of approximately 10-20 union employees, including cooks and service aides, within a unionized work environment.
The role is perfect for culinary professionals with healthcare, senior living, hospitality, or contract food service management experience who are passionate about delivering excellent food quality and patient satisfaction. The ideal candidate will bring operational excellence, strong communication, and team-building skills to foster both employee development and client rapport. This position requires a focus on compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations, including HACCP standards, along with the ability to manage budgets effectively.
Located conveniently with easy access to public transportation, this position offers a competitive compensation package tailored to the candidate's experience, education, and skills. Sodexo also provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with matching contributions, paid time off, and support for career growth through tuition reimbursement.
Joining Sodexo means being part of a company that values diversity and inclusion, offering a respectful and supportive work environment where your unique contributions are recognized. We are committed to equal employment opportunities and encourage talented individuals who are ready to impact healthcare food service positively to apply.
