As a General Manager at Petco, you will embody the company's vibrant mission by leading a high-performing Pet Care Center that prioritizes pets' well-being, inspires team members, excites customers, and achieves strong business outcomes. You will manage operational and financial aspects including sales growth, profitability, payroll, merchandising, inventory management, and overall operational excellence to ensure business goals are surpassed. Moreover, you will actively participate in community engagement by representing Petco at local events, adoption initiatives, and partnerships that strengthen the company’s positive impact.
This role is physically active and primarily takes place within the retail environment of the Pet Care Center, where you will be regularly present on the sales floor. It entails ensuring a safe, healthy environment where pets thrive, a motivated and high-performing team, loyal customers, and a well-managed Pet Care Center that embodies Petco’s values. With a minimum of three years of management experience preferred, strong leadership skills, business acumen, problem-solving capabilities, and a genuine passion for pets and customer service, you will be empowered to build a rewarding career. Educational requirements include a high school diploma or GED, with leadership development programs available for internal candidates.

Job Requirements
- Three or more years of management experience
- Strong leadership and coaching skills
- Experience with financial and operational management
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Passion for pets and customer service
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in retail Pet Care Center environment including exposure to animal dander, odors, and cleaning chemicals
- Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting
- Willingness to travel occasionally for training or community events
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of management experience preferably in retail leadership
- Strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development skills
- Solid business, financial, and operational acumen
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- Genuine passion for pets and customer service
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of Petco leadership development programs may be required for internal candidates
