Job Description

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. stands as a leading pet specialty retailer committed to helping pets live their best lives. For over 60 years, Petco has been a trusted name "where the pets go" to find everything necessary for a happy, healthy life—from premium pet food and toys to essential supplies and expert pet care. Petco's mission goes beyond selling products; it is rooted in the deep understanding and celebration of the pet-human bond. The company recognizes the joys and challenges of pet parenthood, from playful pet antics to health care milestones, making it a true partner for pet owners. With a workforce of over 29,000 team members across more than 1,500 retail stores in the U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rico, along with 250+ Vetco Total Care hospitals and multiple preventive care clinics, Petco maintains a strong presence in the pet care industry. Petco also emphasizes community impact through initiatives like Petco Love, founded in 1999, which supports local animal welfare organizations and has helped find homes for approximately 7 million animals through adoption events.

The General Manager role at Petco is a pivotal leadership position focused on operating a high-performing Pet Care Center that prioritizes the well-being of pets and the satisfaction of pet parents. As a General Manager, you act as the owner of your business unit, assuming responsibility for people, performance, and processes, while exemplifying outstanding leadership qualities. This full-time position offers a salary range of $55,000 to $102,000 per year, reflective of experience and location, and provides a rewarding career path with opportunities for growth and development within a company passionate about pets.

In this role, you lead a dedicated team committed to delivering exceptional customer experiences and maintaining the highest standards of animal care, safety, and overall store operations. You are responsible for fostering an environment where pets and pet parents feel welcomed and valued. Your leadership drives sales growth, operational excellence, and a culture of teamwork and inclusion. Critical to success is your ability to coach and develop talent, ensuring continuous improvement among team members, and your business acumen to manage financial and operational results effectively. Moreover, you contribute to community engagement by spearheading local events and adoption initiatives that strengthen Petco’s impact on animal welfare.

Your everyday responsibilities include championing pet health and safety, cultivating a positive work culture, managing budgets and payroll, executing merchandising and inventory processes, and ensuring compliance with company policies and standards. You must be physically able to engage with the fast-paced retail environment, including standing and walking frequently, lifting up to 50 pounds, and interacting closely with pets and customers. The role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Petco offers a purpose-driven workplace where employees can genuinely make a difference in the lives of pets and pet parents. The company embraces authenticity, inclusion, and teamwork, presenting a culture that nurtures growth and grants leaders the autonomy to own and shape their business. As a General Manager, you will enjoy meaningful work with the support of comprehensive training programs and a range of employee benefits designed to enhance your personal and professional well-being.
