The role of General Manager at Transdev, based in Oakland, CA, represents a pivotal leadership position charged with overseeing overall operational excellence and ensuring the delivery of safe and reliable transit services. The General Manager will actively manage multiple facets of the business unit including employee oversight, risk management, contract asset management, financial performance, and customer satisfaction. This full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from $165,000 to $180,000 per annum alongside a robust benefits package including vacation time, sick days, holidays, 401(k) retirement plan, health insurance options, life insurance, and disability plans.

As a strategic and operational leader, the General Manager will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with employees, clients, union partners, and the local community, fostering a collaborative environment aimed at meeting corporate and client expectations. This includes leading a management team to achieve safety goals, enhance service performance, and meet financial objectives aligned with the contractual obligations of the client and location. The successful candidate will optimize asset utilization including vehicle scheduling, maintenance, and performance management, while analyzing key performance indicators to ensure positive operational results. This position requires an individual with experience managing fixed route or paratransit bus operations of similar size and complexity, along with a comprehensive understanding of transit system regulations and employment laws. Candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills, be adept at labor relations including negotiations and grievance management, and demonstrate proficiency with technology relevant to transportation operations. The General Manager will also be responsible for staff management and development, ensuring that training and professional growth opportunities are appropriately assigned in coordination with the corporate team.

Job Qualifications

  • Completion of a four year college degree in a relevant field is desirable, although a combination of relevant experience and education will be considered
  • Experience in Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation, or related field or equivalent business experience preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience managing a fixed route or paratransit bus operation of similar size and scope
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state employment laws
  • Thorough knowledge of transit system regulations and operations
  • Ability to build solid and maintain strong working relationships with clients
  • Ability to manage cost control and financial budget
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding technology, apps, Wi-Fi, and transportation technology
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, excellent presentation skills, ability to influence people at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to navigate Labor Relations issues and work effectively with union partners, including labor grievances and negotiations
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical if applicable

Job Duties

  • Continuously builds relationships with employees, the client, union partners, and the local community
  • The location/client contract sets the commercial and operational strategic direction for the business unit team
  • Leads the management team and employee workforce to achieve corporate/property safety goals, service performance, and financial objectives
  • Identifies, suggests, and develops business growth opportunities
  • Optimizes the return on assets deployed within the business to include vehicle scheduling, maintenance, and performance management
  • Identifies and analyzes KPIs to maintain positive results
  • Ensures services are provided within budget and action plans are developed and implemented to improve operational efficiency
  • Determines and delivers the business unit budget
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and compliance with Transdev corporate safety standards
  • Oversees all staff management and assigns development training in liaison with the corporate team
  • Ensures effective environmental compliance and sustainability management
  • Provides complete and accurate data collection, compilation, analysis, and reporting
  • Performs other duties as required
