Job Description

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is a leading pet specialty retailer dedicated to improving the lives of pets and their owners across the United States, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. With a proud history spanning over 60 years, Petco has established itself as a trusted destination for pet parents, offering a comprehensive range of products, services, and expert support to help pets live their best lives. The company operates more than 1,500 retail stores, over 250 Vetco Total Care hospitals, hundreds of preventive care clinics, and eight distribution centers, collectively supported by a team of over 29,000 passionate partners. Petco’s commitment extends beyond retail, demonstrated through its founding of Petco Love in 1999, which supports thousands of local animal welfare groups and has facilitated the adoption of approximately 7 million animals through in-store events.

At Petco, the core values emphasize placing the needs of pets and pet parents at the heart of all operations. The company fosters a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and shared ownership through values such as Pet First - Protect & Empower, Foster the Fun - Connect & Bond, and Let's Go! Own & Commit. These values drive Petco's mission to nurture the pet-human bond and create meaningful experiences for pets and pet parents alike.

The General Manager role at Petco is a pivotal leadership position responsible for the overall success and operational excellence of a Pet Care Center. This is a full-time, leadership role where the individual will own the business, lead a team, and ensure that pets receive the highest standard of care. As the face of the Pet Care Center, the General Manager fosters an environment where both pets and pet parents feel welcomed, supported, and cared for, while cultivating an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing team. The General Manager is responsible for driving profitable growth, managing labor and expenses, maintaining operational and safety standards, and representing Petco in the community through local events and adoption initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings at least three years of retail or management experience, strong leadership and coaching skills, solid business acumen, and a genuine passion for pets and customer service. This role demands consistent presence on the sales floor to lead by example, perform key administrative tasks, and engage directly with customers and team members. The position requires physical activity, including lifting and moving items up to 50 pounds, and the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as part of store operating hours.

Joining Petco means becoming part of a purpose-driven company that values authenticity, inclusion, career development, and making a real impact on pets' lives. Petco offers growth opportunities through development programs and the chance to lead and shape the business every day. This role embodies the spirit of Petco’s dedication to pets and people, ensuring a safe, healthy, and happy environment where pets thrive, teams grow, and customers remain loyal.
