The role of General Manager at Petco is a full-time, in-store position located in Boca Raton, FL. This leadership position plays a pivotal role in upholding Petco’s core values, which emphasize putting pets first, fostering team connection and fun, and owning the business with commitment. As the General Manager, you will be responsible for leading a high-performing Pet Care Center that balances excellent customer service with strong business outcomes. This includes developing a passionate and inclusive team that embodies the Petco brand, ensuring the highest standards of animal care and safety, and driving sales and profitability while maintaining operational excellence. The General Manager must maintain a safe, welcoming environment for pets and customers while modeling integrity and transparency in leadership.

Daily responsibilities will include managing people, processes, and performance across the store, including hiring, coaching, and developing talent, optimizing operational activities, maintaining store appearance and safety standards, and executing financial and merchandising strategies. Success in this role is measured by creating an engaged, motivated team with strong retention; a profitable and well-run Pet Care Center; and loyal customers who trust and return to the business.

This role requires hands-on involvement, regular presence on the sales floor, and a genuine passion for pets and customer service. The General Manager must be physically capable of working in a retail environment that involves standing, walking, lifting weights up to 50 pounds, and handling animals in a safe and caring manner. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required to support store operations. Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Experience in retail leadership preferred
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills
  • Solid business and financial understanding
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Passion for pets and customer service
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to work in a retail pet care environment with exposure to animals and cleaning chemicals
  • Must be able to engage regularly on the sales floor
  • Availability for limited travel for training and community engagement

Job Qualifications

  • Complete required administrative, payroll, and inventory tasks accurately and on time
