Founded by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones and her partners Rotimi and Ayo Akinnuoye, who are also the longstanding operators of Bed-Vyne Wine & Spirits and Bed-Vyne Brew, The North Star is deeply rooted in community and culture. The venue proudly features Black-owned spirits and highlights the best literary and intellectual contributions from the Black diaspora through a variety of book talks, workshops, and events. The role of General Manager at The North Star is pivotal in blending operational excellence with cultural stewardship. This position demands a dynamic leader who can oversee the daily operations of the bar, kitchen, and bookstore, ensuring a seamless and upscale customer experience. The General Manager will be responsible for guiding and managing staff, upholding impeccable standards of service, cleanliness, and organization. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining strong vendor relationships, managing inventory, and handling ordering processes with precision and care. With a focus on delivering an exemplary customer experience that prioritizes quality and attention to detail, the General Manager ensures that every visitor leaves with a memorable encounter that reflects the establishment's values and mission. This is a leadership role geared towards empowering a team within a culturally significant venue, overseeing operational functions, and fostering an environment rich in community engagement and literary celebration. Candidates must bring at least five years of experience managing in restaurant, bar, or cafe settings alongside robust leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Additional expertise with health department standards, POS systems, and financial tracking is also essential. Experience in event execution is a valuable asset that will contribute to the continued growth and vibrancy of The North Star.
