The General Manager role located in Spokane, WA, represents a key leadership position responsible for overseeing overall operations to deliver safe and dependable transportation services. This full-time position offers a competitive salary range from $95,000 to $118,000 and a comprehensive benefits package including vacation, sick days, holidays, medical, dental, vision coverage, life insurance, short- and long-term disability plans, and a 401(k) retirement plan.

The General Manager will actively direct all operational aspects of the transit services contract, including employee leadership, risk management, financial oversight, and client and customer relationship management. This role requires continuous collaboration with employees, union representatives, clients, and the local community to ensure that service performance aligns with the contracted standards and safety benchmarks. Strategic responsibilities include setting commercial and operational directions tailored to local and contractual requirements, optimizing asset utilization such as vehicle scheduling and maintenance, and identifying business growth opportunities. Proficient management of key performance indicators and budgetary compliance is essential to maintaining positive operational results and financial health. The successful candidate will be integral in enforcing compliance with state, federal, and Transdev corporate safety regulations, fostering an inclusive workforce, and ensuring environmental sustainability.

In addition to managing a multi-disciplinary team, the General Manager is expected to nurture employee development through appropriate training and professional growth initiatives, while also implementing environmental compliance measures. This role demands strong communication and negotiation skills to effectively navigate labor relations and union engagement. Candidates should possess a robust knowledge of transit operations, relevant laws, technology in transportation, and financial cost control. This position is subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug testing regulations and requires the physical capability to work flexible hours, including possible shifts that blend indoor and outdoor environments.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Completion of a four (4) year college degree in a relevant field is desirable, although a combination of relevant experience and education will be considered
  • experience in Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation, or related field or equivalent business experience preferred
  • at least 5 years of experience managing a fixed route or paratransit bus operation of similar size and scope
  • knowledge of relevant federal and state employment laws
  • thorough knowledge of transit system regulations and operations
  • ability to build solid and maintain strong working relationships with clients
  • ability to manage cost control and financial budget
  • working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • understanding of technology, apps, Wi-Fi, and understanding of transportation technology
  • strong written and oral communication skills

  • ability to influence people at all levels of the organization

  • ability to navigate Labor Relations issues and work effectively with union partners, including labor grievances and negotiations

Job Duties

  • Continuously builds relationships with employees, the client, union partners, and the local community
  • according to location/client contract, sets commercial and operational strategic direction for the business unit team
  • leads the management team and employee workforce to achieve corporate/property safety goals, service performance, and financial objectives
  • identifies, suggests, and develops business growth opportunities
  • optimizes the return on assets deployed within the business to include vehicle scheduling, maintenance, and performance management
  • identifies and analyzes KPIs to maintain positive results
  • ensures services are provided within budget and action plans are developed and implemented to improve operational efficiencies
  • determines and delivers business unit budget
  • ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and compliance with Transdev corporate safety standards
  • oversees all staff management and assigns development training in liaison with the corporate team as appropriate
  • ensures effective environmental compliance and sustainability management
  • provides complete and accurate data collection, compilation, analysis, and reporting
  • performs other duties as required
