The General Manager role at Highgate Hotels is a pivotal leadership position responsible for driving the financial success and overall operational health of a hotel within the Select Service division. This full-time position demands a strategic and hands-on leader who can oversee daily operations, inspire a team of department heads and staff, and uphold the company's standards of guest service and property maintenance. The General Manager will play an essential role in coordinating cross-departmental efforts, managing budgets and forecasts, leading sales initiatives, and fostering a positive work environment that supports employee growth and motivation.
In addition to ensuring that the hotel meets its profitability targets through careful revenue management and cost control, the General Manager must maintain the integrity and cleanliness of the property, ensure compliance with all corporate policies, and participate actively in the hotel’s sales efforts by developing key client relationships. The role also requires conducting frequent staff meetings and training sessions to enhance team capability and service standards according to Highgate’s effective training protocols. The General Manager is expected to perform regular inspections of guest rooms and public areas, manage financial and administrative processes including accounts payable and monthly financial submissions, and execute the hiring, coaching, disciplinary, and performance appraisal procedures in line with company standards.
Operating with a customer-centric approach, the General Manager will directly engage with guests during peak hours, greeting and assisting with inquiries to enhance guest satisfaction. Job Requirements
- Education level of at least associate degree or equivalent
- Proven experience in hotel management or a related hospitality field
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team
- Capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Customer service oriented with a friendly disposition
- Availability to participate in required meetings and trainings
- Willingness to perform Manager on Duty shifts
- Adherence to company standards in attendance and appearance
- Competent in problem-solving and decision-making
- Must handle confidential information responsibly
- Physically able to perform light work involving up to 20 pounds of force
- Must maintain professionalism and ethical conduct
- Ability to motivate and develop staff effectively
Job Qualifications
- At least 6 years progressive experience in a hotel or related field
- or a 4-year college degree with 4 to 5 years related experience
- or a 2-year college degree with 5 to 6 years related experience
- Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to listen, understand, and clarify concerns
- Ability to multitask and prioritize functions
- Approach interactions in a service-oriented manner
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality

Job Duties
- Tour operating departments daily and adjust operations via department heads
- Conduct weekly staff meetings including training sessions
- Meet all financial review dates and corporate program deadlines
- Hold monthly financial reviews with department managers
- Ensure budget compliance and standard accounting procedures
- Develop managers through competency and corporate training
- Conduct daily sales meetings with Director of Sales
- Participate in hotel sales efforts, client meetings, and events
- Cover Manager on Duty shifts as scheduled
- Monitor management trainee development
- Ensure compliance with company policies and train new managers
- Assist with hotel budgeting processes
- Oversee training in service standards and department compliance
- Promote a positive team environment focused on guest service
- Inspect rooms regularly with housekeeping and engineering
- Process invoices daily with Accounts Payable
- Submit accurate financial information monthly
- Ensure property cleanliness and maintenance
- Maintain attentive and courteous interactions with guests and staff
- Forecast monthly financial position and reforecast as needed
- Conduct management interviews and follow hiring procedures
- Perform performance appraisals and enforce disciplinary measures
- Motivate and counsel management personnel
- Meet clients on property to support sales
- Be visible in public areas during peak times
- Oversee hotel safe security and monthly audits
- Conduct monthly credit meetings and participate in credit policies
- Complete corporate training modules and certification
- Ensure all scheduled meetings occur on property
- Perform duties as assigned by Vice President or Regional Director of Operations
