The General Manager I (GM) role at HMSHost involves managing a quick service restaurant (QSR) or a small cluster of restaurants with annual sales typically up to $5 million. This full-time, salaried position with a competitive compensation of approximately $60,000 per year demands strong leadership, operational expertise, and financial acumen. The GM is responsible for ensuring that their restaurant(s) operate smoothly with a focus on cleanliness, staffing, customer service, and meeting financial targets. They oversee all aspects of the restaurant's daily operations, including staffing, product availability, adherence to brand standards, and safety compliance.

In this role, the General Manager exercises broad discretion and judgment in leadership decisions, striving to foster an environment where employee engagement thrives and operational excellence is achieved. They deploy staff effectively, manage schedules, and coach employees to meet business goals. Job Requirements

  • Documented restaurant P&L management experience of at least 3 years
  • overall restaurant experience of 5 to 7 years
  • ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities
  • knowledge of restaurant operations and standards
  • ability to speak, read, and comprehend instructions and policies
  • willingness to work varied and rotating schedules including opening and closing shifts
  • ability to understand and enforce health, safety, and sanitation standards
  • capacity to use management information systems and tools
  • strong leadership and team management skills
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • food service management or culinary program graduation preferred but not required.

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Open and close the restaurant
  • ensure all assistant managers and staff recognize the importance of proper closing and opening procedures
  • manage staffing and deployment of resources to maximize profitability
  • assign work tasks and prepare schedules ensuring all shifts are covered
  • provide coaching and support to staff to achieve business goals
  • interview, hire, promote, and manage employee status decisions
  • ensure compliance with company diversity and inclusion philosophy
  • oversee onboarding and offboarding processes including training and compliance
  • monitor financial and operational reports to assess progress toward goals
  • recognize staff contributions and implement motivation plans
  • champion employee engagement behaviors
  • maintain updated contact information for associates
  • prepare daily orders and ensure proper product stock levels
  • manage receiving goods and resolve supply chain issues
  • maintain proficiency in company management information systems
  • schedule equipment maintenance and repairs
  • manage responses to audits and minimize waste
  • participate in food donation programs
  • assess staff skill levels and coordinate training
  • embrace and promote technological adoption
  • maintain knowledge of brand standards, lease agreements, and labor relations
  • develop strategies to increase revenue
  • manage daily associate activities across locations
  • resolve customer and associate issues appropriately
  • provide feedback reflecting progress against goals
  • implement marketing and promotional programs
  • ensure compliance with sanitary, safety, and health standards
  • hold managers accountable for safety protocols
  • train staff on wellness and health requirements
  • perform all health and safety related activities as per company guidelines
  • work varied and rotating schedules including early and late shifts to monitor operations
  • report to Directors of Operations or other assigned leadership.
