The hiring establishment is a well-established restaurant known for its commitment to providing an excellent dining experience focused on customer satisfaction, quality food, and exceptional service. It operates within the casual to fine dining sector and prides itself on fostering a positive and professional environment for both guests and employees alike. The company aims to uphold high standards in cleanliness, safety, and food quality while maintaining profitability and sustaining a welcoming atmosphere for its patrons. The employment type is full-time, with the role requiring availability during lunch and dinner shifts, weekends, holidays, and high-volume service days, reflecting the restaurant's dynamic and customer-focused approach.
The role of General Manager (GM) at this restaurant involves comprehensive responsibility and accountability for all restaurant operations and activities. The GM ensures that every aspect of the restaurant aligns with the outlined business plan, overseeing functions that span guest satisfaction, sales, staffing, operational costs, and compliance with health and safety regulations. This position is pivotal in leading and inspiring the restaurant team, managing all aspects of the business from talent development to financial performance, and maintaining excellent guest service standards. The General Manager serves as a role model, fostering a culture where the guest is always a priority, and employees are motivated to perform at their best. One of the key responsibilities includes responding to guest complaints promptly and efficiently, aiming to convert dissatisfied patrons into loyal customers.
The GM is charged with measuring service levels regularly by gathering feedback from guests and staff to drive continuous improvement in all areas, including product quality, cleanliness, and staff conduct. Recruitment, training, coaching, and performance evaluation of all staff members fall under the GM's purview, ensuring that the team is well-prepared, knowledgeable, and motivated to achieve restaurant objectives. The GM also manages staff scheduling and labor costs, balancing operational needs with budget constraints.
Financial management is a critical component of the GM's role. They develop strategies to increase sales and average checks while minimizing expenses such as food, beverage, utilities, and labor costs. The GM oversees all financial activities, including invoice reviews, payroll approvals, inventory management, and financial reporting. They ensure budgets are adhered to and that the restaurant maximizes profitability through effective cost control and revenue enhancement techniques.
Safety and compliance are also central to the role. The GM enforces sanitation standards, health guidelines, and legal regulations to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. They oversee the maintenance of the facility and equipment, manage security systems, and ensure the restaurant remains compliant with food safety standards and liquor laws.
Additionally, the General Manager supervises bar operations to maintain profitability while minimizing legal risks, controlling costs, and ensuring staff are certified in responsible beverage service. The position requires excellent communication with upper management, regular reporting, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and incident management.
Overall, the General Manager’s role is dynamic, demanding, and multifaceted, requiring strong leadership skills, extensive operational experience in both front and back-of-the-house management, and a passion for excellence in the restaurant industry. The successful candidate will bring a blend of practical experience and education, ideally holding a degree in hotel or restaurant management, and possess a proven track record of managing successful food service operations with significant volume.
