Job Description
Sonesta International Hotels stands as the 8th largest hotel company in the United States, making significant strides in the hospitality industry with its rapid expansion and a vast portfolio that features over 1000 properties across eight countries. The company encompasses a wide range of full-service and focused hotels, all situated in major cities where they bring high-quality, value-driven hospitality experiences. Sonesta places strong emphasis on the human side of hospitality, striving to deliver service with passion and purpose. Their commitment to both guests and associates is at the heart of their operations, aiming for exceptional guest experiences and fostering loyalty through genuine connections. The company’s slogan, "Together We Thrive," captures this commitment to quality and hospitality excellence, ensuring every guest enjoys a memorable stay tailored to their needs.
The role of General Manager (GM) at Sonesta International Hotels is a leadership position of critical importance within their properties. Acting as the onsite leader, the GM represents Sonesta with guests, clients, associates, and property owners. This role demands the consistent delivery of results that align with the company’s mission and contribute to the overall success of each hotel. In this capacity, the General Manager is responsible for meeting performance objectives that focus on generating revenue, maintaining cost controls, enhancing guest and employee satisfaction, and upholding the quality of product and service.
To fulfill these responsibilities, the GM partners with various internal departments such as marketing, revenue management, sales, human resources, finance, facilities management, information technology, and procurement services. This collaborative approach ensures that the hotel functions seamlessly while maximizing business opportunities and upholding Sonesta’s high standards. The role requires strategic oversight in several operational areas including sales, marketing, bookings, guest services, facilities maintenance, and team leadership. The GM works hands-on with the Regional Sales Director and Global Sales Office to leverage market demand and develop effective sales strategies, while also managing seasonal pricing and occupancy with insights from the Regional Revenue Manager.
Crucially, the General Manager ensures that Sonesta’s G.U.E.S.T. standards and service promises are fully integrated throughout the guest experience, encouraging a culture where associates are passionate about delivering outstanding customer service. Responsibilities also extend to the careful management of hotel amenities, food and beverage quality, cleanliness, and maintenance of the property. The GM supervises the Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager, and other key staff to maintain the physical plant and ensure operational excellence.
Additionally, the GM serves as a community ambassador at social and networking events, seeking new sales leads and engaging with guests directly. Fiscal management is also integral to the role, involving the development and oversight of capital and operational budgets, monitoring financial variances, and maintaining transparent communication with hotel ownership. The GM also ensures compliance with company policies and legal regulations, including those related to health, safety, and alcohol service.
This full-time position offers a competitive salary range of $94,500 to $105,000, reflecting the importance and demands of this senior leadership role. Those who thrive in dynamic environments, possess strong organizational and leadership skills, and are passionate about hospitality will find this role rewarding and impactful. The General Manager role at Sonesta International Hotels is not only about managing a hotel but fostering an environment where staff and guests alike enjoy exceptional experiences driven by quality and care.
