The General Manager position at Proof of the Pudding is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing all culinary and food and beverage operations at the Joliet Slammers independent league baseball stadium. This role demands an experienced manager to handle the fast-paced and complex environment of stadium events, ensuring premium food service quality, operational efficiency, and financial performance. The General Manager will directly supervise a team of approximately 40 hourly and seasonal employees, coordinating staffing, training, and development to maximize performance and teamwork. Responsibilities include setting strategic goals for department growth, managing budgets, analyzing financial reports such as profit and loss statements and balance sheets, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. This individual will facilitate cross-departmental communication among sales, culinary, operations, and warehouse teams to synchronize workflows and enhance event execution.
In addition to operational oversight, the General Manager is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, productivity enhancements, and profit maximization. The role also involves cultivating professional relationships with clients, vendors, and venue partners to build strategic alliances and support business objectives. A strong commitment to safety, security, and regulatory compliance is essential, along with an ability to navigate the physical demands of the position, which includes time spent in kitchens and event environments. With a salary range of $75,000 to $85,000 per year plus an 11% annual performance bonus, the role offers competitive compensation alongside comprehensive benefits including basic life insurance, AD&D, long-term disability, and various optional voluntary insurance plans. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- 3-5+ years of food service management experience
- strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- knowledge of food safety regulations and inventory systems
- experience with budgeting, P&L statements, and cost control
- food safety certification preferred
- ability to perform physical tasks including lifting approx. 40 lbs
- ability to work extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- adaptability to fast-paced food and beverage operations
- valid work authorization
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- associate or bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business, or related field preferred
- 3-5+ years of food service management experience
- strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- knowledge of food safety regulations and inventory systems
- experience with budgeting, P&L statements, and cost control
- food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe Manager) preferred
- extensive experience in reviewing and analyzing financial reports including P&L and balance sheets
- strong technical knowledge and experience with AI tools preferred
Job Duties
- Drive methods to improve quality, efficiency and productivity, reduce costs, increase profits, and improve control measures
- set comprehensive goals for department performance and growth
- oversee daily operations of the department and the work of 40 hourly/seasonal employees
- lead employees to achieve optimal performance by assessing results based on clear expectations, data, and metrics, while promoting engagement to enhance morale and collaboration
- organize frequent meetings and maintain open communication with sales, operations, culinary, and warehouse teams
- monitor the team and event schedule including reporting status, progress updates, and identifying areas requiring corrective actions
- manage and participate in interviewing new employees, develop talent strategies, and coach organizational leaders
- foster a positive environment while holding employees accountable to company policies
- practice an open-door policy for employee grievances, documenting and addressing issues timely
- generate weekly forecasting, ensure adherence to reporting deadlines, oversee and approve all department invoices, and ensure accurate reporting on operations and finances
- forge strategic partnerships and relationships with clients, vendors, agencies, and venue partners
- manage all facilities operations for the corporate building and warehouse including safety and maintenance oversight
