The role of Assistant Club Manager in Training (AMIT) at BJ's Wholesale Club is a pivotal leadership position focused on preparing individuals to assume one of three specialized Assistant Club Manager roles: Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience. This role involves providing daily leadership and direction within the club, directly managing key departments to drive performance. The AMIT is responsible for ensuring consistent execution of policies and procedures, delivering exceptional member service, maintaining club standards such as the Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD), and fostering a positive working environment. The AMIT leads audit compliance, collaborates with business partners, and oversees onboarding, certification, and training to ensure food safety and operational excellence.
As a Manager on Duty (MOD), the AMIT takes full responsibility for club operations, team leadership, and member engagement during assigned shifts. The position requires maintaining a valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification and may include obtaining a forklift license and, in certain states like Florida, a qualifier certification for retail propane oversight. BJ's Wholesale Club invests in training and covers costs associated with certifications and development.
Leadership responsibilities include strategic thinking through a deep understanding of business metrics, acting as a change champion, effective communication, team building, result delivery, talent development, and fostering inclusive relationships. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- 4+ years of retail store, supermarket, or warehouse operations management experience
- strong work ethic and honesty
- excellent communication and leadership skills
- knowledge of shrink controls, merchandising, and customer service
- ability to manage and motivate large teams
- basic computer skills including MS Word and Excel
- must obtain and maintain ServSafe certification
- forklift operator certification
- open shift availability
- minimum age of 18
Job Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience as a retail store, supermarket, or warehouse operations manager
- strong drive for results and solid work ethic
- excellent communication skills
- solid understanding of shrink controls, staff development, merchandising, customer service, problem solving, and conflict resolution
- demonstrated leadership capabilities
- knowledge of store operations, membership, front-line, gas station, tire bay, maintenance, receiving, and omni procedures
- completion of company training program preferred
- high school diploma and/or college degree preferred
- basic computer knowledge (MS Word, MS Excel, Email)
- must be able to obtain and maintain ServSafe certification
- forklift operator required
- open shift availability required
- at least 18 years of age
