The General Manager role at Residence Inn Salem, located at 640 Hawthorne Avenue, SE, Salem, OR 97301, is an integral leadership position within Highgate Hotels' Select Service Division. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving hotel profitability by focusing on key aspects such as revenue generation, cost control, superior guest satisfaction, and employee development, all while preserving the integrity and standards of the property. This year-round, full-time salaried position demands a strong leader capable of managing multiple departments, coordinating with sales teams, and ensuring all operations align with Highgate standards.
Responsibilities include daily oversight of operational departments to guarantee smooth and efficient service delivery, conducting regular staff meetings and training sessions aimed at enhancing team competencies and service quality, and holding monthly financial reviews with department heads. The General Manager will play an active role in sales efforts by maintaining relationships with significant clients and participating in promotional events. Highgate expects this leader to foster a positive, team-oriented environment prioritizing guest experiences and employee satisfaction. Routine inspections of the property and guest rooms, vigilant management of financial documents, adherence to corporate policies, and strict compliance with safety and security protocols are also key roles. Consistent forecasting and analysis of financial performance along with rigorous recruitment, interviewing, coaching, and performance appraisal of management personnel form a critical part of the responsibilities. Job Qualifications
- At least 6 years progressive experience in a hotel or related field or 4-year college degree with 4 to 5 years related experience or 2-year college degree with 5 to 6 years related experience

- effective listening understanding and clarifying concerns from employees and guests

Job Duties
- Tour the operating departments daily making adjustments as needed via department heads
- conduct weekly staff meetings including weekly training sessions
- meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs timely
- hold monthly financial review with department managers MIDs and supervisors
- ensure department heads maintain budget productivity levels and standard accounting procedures
- develop managers for future advancement through training programs
- conduct daily HHBR meetings focusing on sales prospecting calls
- actively participate in hotel sales efforts including client meetings and hosting events
- cover M.O.D. shifts as scheduled
- monitor management trainees' development
- adhere to and train staff in all hotel policies and procedures
- assist in budgeting processes
- ensure training in service standards
- create positive team-oriented environment focusing on guest and employee development
- inspect rooms regularly with housekeeping and engineering
- ensure daily invoice processing
- submit financial documents timely to corporate office
- maintain cleanliness and maintenance via inspections and preventive programs
- ensure employees maintain friendly courteous efficient interactions with guests and colleagues
- forecast monthly financial position estimating revenues expenses
- conduct management interviews and follow hiring procedures
- interview all candidates for management positions
- perform executive performance appraisals
- motivate coach counsel and discipline management staff
- perform duties as requested by Vice President or Regional Director
- ensure fair equitable treatment for all employees
- meet clients on property assisting in sales efforts
- be present in public areas during peak times greeting guests
- ensure hotel safe procedures and audits are followed
- conduct monthly credit meetings and enforce credit and collection policies
- complete corporate training modules and certify others as required
- ensure all scheduled meetings take place on property
