The General Manager role at Barry's centers on leading a single studio’s operations and staff to achieve exceptional client satisfaction and business performance. This full-time position plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day management of studio operations, including overseeing Front Desk, FuelBar, Retail, and Facilities functions to ensure smooth and efficient workflows. The General Manager is responsible for monitoring studio performance metrics and making strategic decisions to optimize results. They also handle labor scheduling to maintain proper staffing and adhere to budgets. Facilities upkeep and project management are key components to keep the studio clean, safe, and updated while supporting new studio openings when necessary.

As the primary leader on site, the General Manager fosters team leadership by communicating effectively with supervisors and staff, conducting recruiting and onboarding processes, and ensuring consistent training aligned with Barry's hospitality standards. The role demands a strong coach to motivate employees, conduct performance reviews, and resolve personnel issues with support from the People and Culture Department. Collaboration with the Director of Operations helps to build management talent pipelines and elevate employee engagement.

Community marketing and studio culture are notably important for sustaining Barry's brand presence. The General Manager partners with marketing teams to implement outreach initiatives and acquisition strategies, contributing to a vibrant, unified studio culture that emphasizes engagement and growth. Daily representation of Barry's mission, vision, and values among clients and within the fitness community helps maintain the company’s reputation as an industry leader.

This role requires a passion for health and wellness, leadership agility to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, and excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across diverse teams. The General Manager should exhibit professionalism, reliability, and a friendly, optimistic attitude while maintaining high standards. Physical capabilities such as lifting over 30 pounds and sustained periods of standing are necessary for success. Compensation for this role ranges from $80,000 to $85,000 annually in the United States.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of fitness management or relevant related experience such as hospitality, retail, or food and beverage
  • Availability for full-time work during non-traditional hours including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to train, lead, motivate, and delegate to a team of employees
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with different personality types as well as other departments, vendors, and clients
  • Exceptional written and oral communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented mindset with an eye for customer satisfaction
  • Strong negotiation, mediation, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven dependability and reliability

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Oversee daily studio operations and studio management teams including Front Desk, FuelBar, Retail and Facilities operations
  • Manage and drive studio performance, work strategically to assess and meet all key studio, retail, and FuelBar business performance metrics, and make appropriate, informed business decisions
  • Oversee all labor schedules to ensure proper coverage and alignment with budgeted hours
  • Conduct regular inspections of all studio spaces and manage projects to ensure facilities are clean and updated, working with local and corporate leadership on quick execution of facilities initiatives and repairs
  • Maintain a working presence in studios, covering studio management shifts as needed to showcase the best of brand skills and mentor employees as well as other managers
  • Assist with new studio openings when necessary
  • Manage communications with and between supervisors, peers, and subordinates regarding studio needs to ensure that all departments are properly supported and supplied at all times
