This extensive network allows Sonesta to be present in the most sought-after locations, delivering an unparalleled guest experience. The company is driven by the human side of hospitality, emphasizing passion in service, loyalty with purpose, and crafting meaningful experiences that genuinely connect with guests. With more than 1000 properties across eight countries, Sonesta strives to bring a consistent level of quality and value to every guest stay, ensuring memorable hospitality encounters.
The role of General Manager at Sonesta International Hotels plays a pivotal leadership position within the onsite hotel management team. The General Manager (GM) is the face of the company for guests, clients, associates, and owners alike, representing Sonesta's commitment to excellence at every touchpoint. This position is vital for aligning the hotel’s operations with the larger objectives of Sonesta by achieving performance targets centered around revenue growth, cost control, guest and employee satisfaction, as well as maintaining high standards for product and service quality.
In this role, the GM will engage in close collaboration with Sonesta’s corporate support functions, including marketing, revenue management, sales, human resources, finance, facilities, information technology, and procurement services. This collaboration ensures that the hotel is properly supported in achieving its business goals and delivering on promise of superior service. The General Manager is responsible for fostering a passionate culture of customer service through adherence to the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards, ensuring all associates are motivated to deliver exceptional experiences.
Key responsibilities include managing the hotel’s sales and marketing efforts in partnership with the Regional Sales Director and Global Sales Office, and working directly to produce and implement a strategic seasonal demand plan alongside the Regional Revenue Manager. A critical part of the role involves direct engagement in sales activities, price and rate management via systems such as Opera and Synxis, and oversight of front office, housekeeping, and food & beverage operations through the Operations Manager. Corporate collaboration extends to finance for budget management and reporting, engineering and facilities for maintenance and capital improvements, as well as human resources and IT to ensure smooth internal operations.
The General Manager also functions as a representative of the hotel by attending events for networking and business development, managing guest complaint resolution with professionalism, upholding regulatory compliance including health and safety standards, and ensuring consistent application of policies and procedures. This leadership position requires a versatile skill set including strategic and operational expertise, financial acumen, organizational capability, and the ability to inspire and develop hotel staff. Given the wide-ranging responsibilities and dynamic environment, the role demands flexibility with work hours and travel requirements.
Sonesta offers a comprehensive benefits package reflective of its commitment to employee wellbeing including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plans with company match, paid vacation and sick days, hotel discounts, and various insurance options. The General Manager position is ideal for an experienced hospitality professional seeking to lead and grow within one of the fastest-growing, customer-centric hotel companies in the industry.
