Job Description

Sonesta International Hotels is the eighth largest hotel company in the United States and is experiencing rapid growth. With a vast portfolio that includes full-service and focused hotels located in major cities, Sonesta provides an expansive presence across over 1000 properties in eight countries. This dynamic hotel company emphasizes the human side of hospitality, ensuring every interaction reflects their values of passion, loyalty, and genuine connection. Sonesta is committed to delivering exceptional guest experiences, offering quality accommodations, value, and service that resonates with travelers worldwide. Their diverse properties include owned, managed, and franchised hotels, making the brand versatile and impactful in the hospitality industry.

The role of General Manager (GM) at Sonesta International Hotels is a pivotal leadership position responsible for the overall success and operational management of the hotel. The GM acts as the face of the company, representing Sonesta to guests, clients, hotel associates, and owners alike. This full-time position demands a hands-on leader who can consistently achieve performance goals related to revenue growth, cost control, guest and associate satisfaction, and maintaining high standards of product and service quality.

The General Manager works closely with multiple departments, including marketing, revenue management, and sales teams, as well as shared services such as accounting, facilities, human resources, information technology, and procurement. These collaborations ensure seamless hotel operation and alignment with Sonesta’s strategic objectives. The GM manages day-to-day activities, including direct oversight of hotel departments like front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, and maintenance. They also guide the sales efforts alongside the Regional Sales Director and Global Sales Office to capture the right business mix for the hotel’s market.

Key responsibilities involve implementing the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. service standards, fostering a customer-centric culture among staff, and ensuring the hotel environment is appealing, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary amenities. The GM oversees budget development and financial monitoring, working with finance teams to address variances and maintain sound fiscal health. Additionally, the GM enforces compliance with laws covering health, safety, and alcohol service.

The role requires strong leadership that fosters service recovery, guest satisfaction, and associate engagement while representing the hotel at various events to generate sales opportunities. The General Manager must effectively coordinate with Human Resources to manage recruitment, training, and performance management, and with IT and procurement teams to maintain operational efficiency and technology use. Flexibility is essential, as the GM is expected to be "Manager on Duty" when required and to work varied hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Sonesta International Hotels prides itself on its commitment to employee well-being, offering robust benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plans with company match, paid parental leave, various employee discounts, and more. This position is ideal for experienced hospitality leaders who have a passion for excellence, operational expertise, and the ability to inspire teams to uphold the company's high standards and values.
